Im looking at getting a new Dell laptop.

I have spoken to Dell Live support and they have said that both these laptops will perform the same, however thought it would be best to ask some "guru's"

    First is :

    Inspiron 1521
    AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile technology TL-58
    Windows Vista® Home Premium
    2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
    250GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
ATI Radeon® Xpress 1270 HyperMemory (integrated)

    and

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5250 (1.50 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2-cache)
    Windows Vista® Home Premium
    2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
    160GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
    nVidia® GeForce™ Go 8600M GT with 256MB DDR2 dedicated graphic memory

    Which system would perform better?

I would be using the system mostly for creating websites in such programs as Dream weaver and PhotoShop, however I would wish to play the odd game like Half Life 2 and other games.

However I know that neither of the system will be able to play the latest games at high Frame Rates. However I wish to get the best system out of the two. CPU and Graphic Wise.

So which system is best overall and for some 3D game play.

    Thanks,
    Ashley

Well, If I were you and have to decide between just these two notebooks, I'll go for the Core 2 Duo.

However if you want to play games and you want great performance and graphics I suggest that you get a better notebook with a higher GFX.

    Good Luck

    Hello,

Thanks for the reply, I was edging towards the Core 2 Duo also due to better arc and what looked like a better GFX due to Dedicated Ram.

Like I said I don't want this laptop as a Game computer as I have a Desktop for this.

However I didn't want to pick on laptop and find out that it would have been best to choose the other laptop.

Thanks for your help, if anyone else has any comments will be great fall. However I think I will go for the Core 2 Duo system.

since you got a desktop for games
get the first one, more HD space is good and those 2 processors are the same, that AMD might actually beat that low end C2D

    Hello,

I still wish to be able to play some games on the system.

Also i think the ATI GTX card is a bit underpowered for even running Vista it self.

If im correct the Nivdia Card is alot more powerful?

Dedicated Ram , and better Chipset and Pipes.

    Thanks for all the help.

I have decided to go with the Core 2 Duo due to the more powerful graphics card and also after looking through some reviews the Core 2 Duo looks better for a Mobile CPU.

    Thanks.

The AMD laptop is integrated video, but you'd be surprised at how good it actually is...but no where near the level of the 8600GT. You will have very little problem playing games a low res on it. My boss plays Flight Sim 10 on the desktop version of the chipset (690G).

Not to mention the integrated video will give you much longer battery life and a much cooler running laptop.
