Put it in your "Program Files/Electronic Arts/Crytek/Crysis" folder.

    LMAO......

I just loved watching G4's X play and there review of crysis.

Put in like they did it, and showing all the flaws, it was quite amusing

    3 out of 5 ain't bad....

    But the review statement was..

"Crysis is pretty alright, But what a Mess!"

    They are so right.....

    Can someone help me out?

I installed it, played for a while and then noticed that it is not on DX10 mode. So when I tried to go to my start menu to change it to that, there is no icon. There is also no desktop icon.

So I uninstalled and installed again and the game just doesn't make a desktop icon or come up with one for some reason?

I have my autoexec.crg in the Crysis folder too, and it's working perfectly.

@ChaosTheory, that's strange..it should run in DX10 mode on default if you have Vista. Anyways, make a shortcut yourself id it doesn't provide you with one..and then go to its properties and add -DX10 after the crysis.exe in the Target field, so it now should look something like this:

Ok, I found the icon and put it on my desktop. I think I may know why it didnt' default to DX10 as well. When I right click on it and go to Compatibility and then "Run this program in compatibility mode for", it has Windows Service Pack 2 listed instead of Vista. Is Vista suppose to be there or not?

I am not sure where I can put the -DX10 thing at though. Could you give me a screenshot or more info of where to do the DX10 thing at?

Just uncheck the 'Run this program in compatibility mode' check box and it should run in DX10. But if somehow it won't, here's the screenshot of what should be changed:

The same way you can force it to run in DX9 under Vista (if needed, as you don't have that icon in Games folder)..just change the -DX10 to -DX9, you can also create two separate shortcuts: one to run it in dx10, other - in dx9.

I am not coming up with that many options for some reason. All I have is

General, Compatability, Digital Signatures, Security, and Details.

Here is a screenshot of it. Only way I could get the screenshot is by putting it in Word.

This is a brand new computer, so I am still trying to work out all the bugs.

My word says that the document is corrupt when trying to open it.. anyways, it seems like you haven't created a shortcut properly (this is the only thing which comes to my head now, maybe you've did a copy instead of shortcut? just a guess though..), as every shortcut HAS the shortcut tab..well because it's a shortcut after all :D

Unchecking the compatibility check box should let it run in dx10 mode anyways, so try that if you somehow can't get this right.

Well I checked and I believe it is running in DX10 mode because it had the option to check Very High. So does that mean it is in DX10 mode or just available because I have Vista?

Man, my rig was cruising along great FPS wise at 1680x1050, very high settings except for shaders. Until I hit the snow/carrier levels. Kicked the sh*t outta my rig. Anyone else notice that too?

yeah.... only logical explanation that makes a whole lot of sense.... snow = LOTS of particle effects.... more than likely mostly contributed to soft-particles.

    Intel Core2 Duo 6600 @2.4GHZ
    ASUS GeForce 7950GT 512MB
    ASUS P5B-E (Intel P965chip set)
    2GB DDR-2 800MHZ HyperX Kingston
    Sound Blaster live 5.1!
    Windows XP Pro SP2

What frames per sec should I expect from Crysis at High details, DX9 & 1280x1024 res?
    Thanks in advance.

    Somewhere in the teens.

But there are tweaks you can do that will help increase your fps without loose much IQ.

Apparently most of the current hardware is having a hard time keep those frames smooth in Crysis.
Another case of un-optimized rushed out game engine?

At least when Doom3, Quake 4 & Half Life 2 came out, they run very well on the best hardware of the time.

I don’t even think it’s worth buying any of the beefed up 8800 gfx cards at the moment. It would be best to go straight for the next generation 9 nvidia gfx cards along with the upcoming patches and fixes for Crysis.
My guess is that they’ll be available around January-February.

    waiting...
been trying to tell myself this for weeks now, placated my self with finally buying vista last night and now have the DX10 bug more than ever. This is the wrong time of year to be spunking hundreds of pounds on myself... argh.
It's really hard to compose yourself and make do with dx9 untill the real dx10 hardware comes of age. Might just have to buy myself a straight jacket instead, preferably one with no pockets for a wallet.
