Currently, i have a 6800 256MB. I am looking to upgrade the video card, as i just upgraded my ram to 2 gigs (havent updated my comp specs). I am looking into getting this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814241063R Its a 1950XT 512MB. Power supply not being a problem, do you all think this is a good choice, considering my cpu? By the way, upgrading my cpu isnt an option. All i am looking for is a nice graphics card that wont bottleneck my cpu, that can play recent games well.
This one is better my friend: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161211 Yes, it's only 256MB, but it's WAY more powerfull.
It says its PCI Express 2.0. I got my computer when PCIe was brand new, so im guessing its PCIe x16. Would a PCIe 2.0 card work on my system? (Its an intel 925x mobo by the way)
He's quite right, the 3850 is just insane price/performance and PCIe 2.0 does work with PCIe 1.0. The downside is you won't be able to max textures out in newer games, but you will have much higher image quality settings to make up for it.
hu i think hes talking about the 1950xt not 3850 but he should get that instead for that price and open box .depends on your resoloutions if you play 1680x1050 higher it wont cpu wont bottlececk much.i see guys with the same processor with 8800gt and loving it..
The open box 1950 is five dollars cheaper then the 3850... That would be an incredibly stupid mistake to buy the 1950.
I think the reason it is a bit more expensive is because it is dx10 capable, which isnt a must for me.
Yes, but DX10 capable cards are far faster in DX9 mode than DX9 capable cards are... Far better performance in Win XP than older cards, take a look at benchies on Tom's Hardware if you don't believe me.
so all in all, you guys think that getting the 3850 HD will not bottleneck my computer at all (remember, i do have 2 gigs now, but only a P4 3.4GHz HT). Do you think it will help playing recent games a lot?
o9h yes get the 3850 what resoloutions do you play like i said higher resoloutions more gpu dependent so bottleneck wont be there.
Compared with a 6800GTO? Most definitely. According to benchies the 3850 is almost as fast as the 2900XT which is even faster than what ATi said it would be, you won't find a faster card anywhere near that price point (so hurry before it starts climbing). Only caveat is the wimpy cooler which, in the same fashion as the 8800GT, is probably not as quiet as the manufacturer claims once you crank it a bit. PSU req's are supposed to be less than than the 1950 which is hardly surprising.
I play at 1600x1200, which is nearly impossible for most games these days. And for the above poster, its not even a 6800GTO anymore, its just a 6800 (256mb version)
