Well It's been about 10 months since i got my 8800gts and with xmass comming up I'm looking to upgrade my system to get the most out of my card.

So I want a new system for my card but I've lost touch with all the new gear out there, basicly all I need is a new cpu, motherbord and a few gigs of ram everything else I have.

I've done some browsing on my favorite parts sites and this is what I've come up with for my set buget.

    No.1:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, 2.66GHz, 1333MHz FSB.

    Asus P5N-E SLI Motherboard, Socket 775, 1333MHz FSB, 4xDIMM DDR2, 2xPCIe-16, 2xPCI, 8xUSB2, Firewire, Audio, ATA, RAID, ATX.

    Transcend JetRAM, 2x1GB, DDR2-800, PC2-6400, CL5, DIMM

    No2:
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ CPU, 3.0GHz, Socket AM2, 32/64-Bit

    Asus M2A-VM HDMI Motherboard, Socket AM2, 2000MHz FSB, 4xDIMM, DDR2, PCIe-16, 2xPCI, 1xPCIe-1, 10xUSB2, Firewire, Audio, Video, ATA, RAID, ATX

    Transcend JetRAM, 2x1GB, DDR2-800, PC2-6400, CL5, DIMM

So witch is better for my XFX8800GTS 640mb, No1. or No.2. Both cost nerly exactly the same so theres no comparison there, just witch would be the best for the card?

Thanks in advance to all replies :smoke:

Put a Q6600 in place of that E6750, and sell your 640 to buy a 8800GT. Then you're all set. That's just my opinion tho..

go for Core 2 Duo it will delivered u the best results for any nvidia 8800 card.
else if u wanna buy new core then go for Q6600 SLACR G0 its best for ur future applications.

I would go for a Q6600 but I'm on a budget and just cant afford it.

a q6600 is not that much more expensive than a dual core newegg charges 280 dollars for one that is a pretty good deal seeing as all other quad core cpus cost a thousand dollars, i mean it is up to you whether you want to spend an extra 80 bucks for two extra cores. I don't think you really need to upgrade you vid card to a 8800GT yours will do just fine for at least another half a year if you must always play at the greatest quality, if not then i say the card will last a year and a half before you will desperately need a card, as to your two choices i say number one, is that mobo a P35 one, cause i hear those a the best.

Not all of them, I paid $479 for a Q6700

I saw a benchmark before that had the E6750 beating the Quadcore 2.44Ghz(6600 I believe) in basically every game, but the Quadcore edged out the Core2Duo in benchmarks like 3DMark05/06 and stuff like word processors and surfing the net, etc.

IMO, the Core2Duo is fine and if you overclock it, you will be fine. But, if you get the Quad and OC it, it will future proof your system.

Ever since I went AMD I am just unable to even talk INTEL. I guess it's more of a pasion thing for me. Performance wise, seems that AMD has a better clock and better FSB. At the same time your selected Intel mobo has SLI. I guess you must aim for the future and consider how quickly both slots can grow old. Seems to me both have the same age and might come out of the main streem as soon as the new generation hits the shelfs.

Don't forget AMD seems to be coming out with a new slot already.

Yea it would ne nice if I lived in the us and had a credit card but I dont, Here in newzealand the cheapest q6600 i found was about 160nzd more than the duo thats about 110usd.

But anyway I've ordered all the items from No.1 and im just wating on my next pay to bump me up to 700nzd then I'll pay for them, I allso added a Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 CPU cooler, so ill be overclocking with desent temps.

    Wish me luck :smoke:
