I ended up putting my 8800 GTS 640 on eBay just to see what happened and just received $295!! I am now headed to Best Buy to pick up an 8800 GT. They are selling them for $279 and the 6 Best Buys around here all say they have plenty in stock. Keith
I could use Step Up to get an 8800GT, but i'm not going to do it. I am waiting for the new 8800GTS, there is this SSC version, and apparently it has 112 Shader Units, but i am unsure about this and can't see anything definite.
Not sure it's such a smart move to get rid of your 640's yet, based on real life gaming, and not just benches. The cards in this review are all oc'd versions. 575mhz on the GTS, and 660mhz on the GT. So clock for clock, they seem to be scaling fairly even. The big thing you'll get out of the GT is the ability to overclock quite a bit more...as long as you dont get a dud of course. I'm sure there will be some gains, but not sure it's worth the trouble for it...especially with some bigger cards coming up. http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/13479/4
I am going to sell this 8800GT to my little brother when the new cards come out anyway. I just couldn't pass up selling my old card and making enough money for a steak dinner for me and my GF.
I have the 640MB OC version of the 8800GTS (Foxconn)... Although I'm tempted, I think I may just stay put... Knowing my luck, I would get an 8800 GT, and have it end up slower than mine... But if I were buying today, it would probably have been a GT. I did just buy an 8600 GT for my movie-playing machine... and considering in a few weeks, there won't be much difference in price with 8800 GT... I feel a little........ eh.
