When using the Catalyst ATI graphics driver (any of them), the contrast is a lot less than when I was using the Vista Primary Display Driver. I can turn the contrast past 100 in the Control Center but this causes the greys to become white. GPU: ATI Radeon 1900 512MB Monitor: IBM P275 (a CRT) OS: Vista Home Basic 64-bit
7.4 and earlier are ok. All drivers since 7.5 have given that horrible bleached/washed out effect under Vista. I'm still running 7.4.... and getting mighty tempted by an NVidia 8800GT :leave:
They don't though, there's been bugs since like 6 driver (6 months) releases later with the same problems. I get the impression they can't fix it or do not care!
The washed out look happened at the same time as ATi added the 'Black and White Levels' option to the Catalyst. It's set at 'PC Standard black and white levels' by default but by switching to 'Microsoft MCE black and white levels' i've found colours much richer, and it's solved the washed out look in games. If you switch it over you'll notice the difference to your desktop straight away. Well i did anyway
Does this also fix the sluggishness/ghosting for games in Vista 64bit? I remember it made Oblivion look horrible..
