hi all, im planning on applying arctic silver 5 paste when i install the E6750 on the mobo P35-DS3R ( which i will apply a layer of arctic silver on the P35 chip) and im getting an evga 8800GTS 640, also planning to apply some paste on it, and install a 120MM fan close to the GPU, would this idea improve temps by a good margin or 1-4C ? please help
its a very good idea, when you take them off you will know why very easy and fast way for some insurance. temp will be better, how much is hard to say for a few reasons.
Arctic silver is teh sheet! Using it everywhere :nerd: It keeps my e6850 with Zalman cnps7700 on 21-23c.
I used AS5 first, last time around I bought AS Ceramique. I think it's a bit better. Hopefully, it'll release a bit easier, I don't know how many CPU's I've pulled out of a locked socket! Time will tell huh?
Yeah, and? $6 for a 2 degree drop is something I'd have no problems paying for. Fact remains, MX-1 is a better paste than AS5.
I was simply laughing at the phrase "way better". Does this look "way better" to you? looks like a minimal decrease to me.
In fact I would call that a rather large difference, considering we're comparing a rather unknown paste to the largest TIM manufacturer for enthusiast computing in the world. Everyone always' automatically assumes AS5 is the best, while it simply isn't. There's an armada of different TIM's that will outperform AS5 in many aspects. Shin-Etsu and Arctic Cooling paste are the most popular competitiors. A 1 degree drop over something that's by most people considered to be "the best" is quite substantial, in my opinion. And since this TIM costs the same as AS5, then why would you get the worse performer?
Your just better to go whit Zalman Thermal grease, no thermal curing (but I found it took 4-5 hours, before the temps dropped.) 99.9% pure silver, applicable way better, remove way better, cost less. I personnaly wont buy arctic silver ever again, Thermal grease is just by far a better product!
What's the exact product name of the Zalman stuff you're using? If it's Zalman CSL 850 , then it isn't exactly very good: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=135359
No it's the Zalman ZM-STG1 im using. As grey as the Arctic Silver 5, but work soo much better. Until the 200hours curing time of the AS5 are done, you wont see any real benefit. Whit this, it's in the same day. Worth the try! Review agains the AS5 Theres a margin of error there, but all temps are the sames. Just as good. Review agains Arctic Ceramic Zalman win hand down!
________________________________________________________ i can apreciate the ease applying the zalman. however, i prefer useing shin-etsu's X23-7783D, G751 & ac's mx-2. when building OCing rigs. but just for sheetz n gigglez, here's some testing results... food for thought:
Based on all these reviews and stuff I decided to buy that Zalman ZM-STG1 when I buy Tuniq Tower 120 for my Q6600...
AS5 gives me maybe 1-2 degrees decrease. I only use it if the stock grease on the heatsink has to be replaced for whatever reason. The stuff lasts for years. You may as well buy some for those times when you need to reseat or replace a HSF on something.
