mine does exactly the same as yours i set it to 1.45 in bios and then everest showed it as 1.39 and when i ran prime 95 it went down again to 1.36,also same in cpu-z

    chispy,

this is a great thread i am learning a lot from it up but i have to admit i am a bit rusty and mostly timid on ocing this thing right now...but i am going to anyways...i just assembed this rig a couple days ago and would like to be around 3.0ghz-3.2ghz...great cooling in my case and an aftermarket heatsink...i am still trying to figure out how the smm should be worked in with my particular memory, i know that this memory should oc well...EXCELLENT cooling in my case and cpu...arctic freezer 7 keeps it cool and i got the fan running full speed...i am also using bios F6...

UPDATED--after i read this thread about 3 times i have a better understanding of what's going on with this bios and board...i finally got a functioning oc @ 3.1ghz...here is what i did...47,47,49.49 for core temps on max load, about 2 hours into prime....scored 13309 in 3dmark06 and ran fear for about 2 hours without a flicker...should i push it some more or what?

    cpu clock --9x
    host control -- 345mhz
    smm -- 2.4
    vcore -- 1.29v
    pcxi -- +.2v
    mem -- +.4v (ocz reaper htc 800 mem (2.1v) (4gb) manually set @ 5-5-5-15
    mch -- +.2v
    fsb == +.2v

this board served me well. But ram oc wasn't cutting it with those ratios. BFG 680i welcome back

I rma my P35c-DS3R 4 weeks ago and they lost it! LOL
I,ll get a new one tomorrow and new cellshock ram!

This time I will take it easy with the voltages! I love this mobo, I could buy a ga - x38, but why should I.
As Chispy said, there are no big differences!

i agree, unless i am doing something wrong...i cant seem to get a passing test with the cpu at 3.2ghz...i i think my memory is holding me back...here is what i had setup with the fail...

    cpu clock --9x
    host control -- 355mhz
    smm -- 2.4
    vcore -- 1.32v
    pcxi -- +.2v
    mem -- +.5v (ocz reaper htc 800mhz mem (2.1v) (4gb) man. set @ 5-5-5-15
    mch -- +.2v
    fsb == +.2v

although i have the pc at a VERY stable 3.1ghz right now with this setup...ran 9 hours of prime95 with MAX heat and CPU/MEM test...

    cpu clock --9x
    host control -- 345mhz
    smm -- 2.4
    vcore -- 1.29v
    pcxi -- +.2v
    mem -- +.4v (ocz reaper htc 800 mem (2.1v) (4gb) manually set @ 4-4-4-15
    mch -- +.2v
    fsb == +.2v

I have a huge Vdrop too. I set the BIOS Vcore in 1.5, and I get idle 1.45, and load, 1.4. I'm rock stable @ 3.6 tho. 37C idle, 63 load.

Thats the thing with this mobo if you want to get a good oc you have to have great rams. The lowest ratio is t 1.1 which the higher cpu fsb so too the fsb on the ram will increase not like the 680i where you can run them unlinked. Anyways if you have 800fsb rated rams at the start and its not d9s im afraid you are limited.
Also i think you dont need to give your ram that much voltage. As standard it is 1.8v so increasing it +0.3v should give you 2.1v im sure for that oc it would be fine

ya i figured that...i got this ram really cheap (150) for 4gbs...i am really considering selling them off and going with 1066mhz memory, that's why i bought this mobo so i could upgrade if i wanted to...when i had my cpu at 3.2 before the mem crashes out, the temps are still really low and i am curious how high i can get this on a 24/7 basis, i think 3.2 should be good with 1066mhz memory...i was thinking come crucial ballistix (d9s) if i can...what would you suggest...i am scoring 13332 in 3dmark06 with my current oc, and no gpu oc...i doubt even with better memory it will jump that much higher...

Yes do get the ballistixs 8500 they are cheap right now but 4gb will set you back a bit. All comes down to what you happy with. If you happy with your oc right now then dont worry its pretty decent. For me im a junkie for oc. Went with q6600 b3 stepping no good on the 680i to q6600 G0 stepping alright on the 680i but not satisfied. Then i got the DS3R 3.7ghz stable but rams hold me back. Reason being to let you know b4 hand is with this DS3R rev.1.0 that i have it cant volt the ballistixs that i have. The max i could give them was 2.1v. Over that when i check the stats for voltages in the bios it says 'Fail'. But then again i didnt check the voltages with everest or other software because it could just be a bios thing. But like i said 3.6ghz with right cooling nothing the ballistix cant handle

ya personally i am quite happy with it's performance now, i dont think i can justify selling off my ram and coughing up like 200 bucks for the difference to get 4gb of the crucial...i would probably only see a 6-10 percent increase...i can wait i think but atleast i know that it's my ram holding me back and not the cpu or any other hardware...i scored 13332 so i am really not complaing especially for the price i paid for my current 4 gigs...

for some reason my ram timings are not visible..the volts and everything are there and I can still use the divider to change it but I can't seem to get the timing to show up for me to change at all...I have the standard bios for the mobo (rev. 1), because when i tried to flash it to f6 it told me the flash was for a different version of windows (i am on vista ult. 64) and it said it might be for x86...anyone have this happen?

To see you ram timings hit Ctrl+F1 when in main menu for the bios.

    thanks!

for some reason, I keep crashing prime on one of the cores at 21 minutes...temps are pretty good (56,56,51,50). Tried at 400x9, 390x9, 385x9, 382x9 and all of them crashed, tried upping volts all the way to 1.5 and couldn't get it past 21 minutes (ram set at 2.5 multiplier)...now i'm trying with 1.468 volts and 380x9.

EDIT: i think i found the problem: vdroop is pretty bad with this board, I have it set to 1.6 right now and it's sending a constant 1.488 under load. Temps are still good (60C under load at 400x9).

Is there a fix for the vroop? What are the voltages the rest of you guys are running at around 3.6? I mean what is the bios set voltage and the voltage that is being shown in CPU-Z?

As I said, I'm at 1.6 in bios with 1.488 in cpuz under load and about 1.502 at rest in cpuz.

also, I am noticing that the longer prime runs, the more vdroop i get...right now I am at a steady 1.472, so it's never going to make it to 8 hours stable, because it usually fails around 1.45 volts. (temps at 65,65,60,60)

    Think i need to lap.

1.47v at what speed ? Is that under load or idle ? Really i had this mobo running my q6600 at 3.6ghz at 8 x 450fsb with 1.46v stable because i had to compensate the vdroop. It would of run at a lower voltage is the vdroop wasn't so bad.

well I got 400x9 to run prime stable for like 14 hours, never failed...just quit testing it.

I'm trying to max it right now, can't seem to get past 3.78 because I need more voltage because of vdroop. At 1.8 volts it's only really giving 1.552 at idle.

Somethings not wright there at 1.8v you should get at least 1.74v iddle with vdroop into 1.70 more or less , try the vdroop pencil mod to see if it helps ok.

    Good Luck.

    Hi All :)

Built my latest MAIN PC after getting the following.

    £137.99 x 1 - Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2900 Pro SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (21119-00-40R)
    £64.99 x 1 - Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard
    £135.99 x 1 - Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM

    £14.99 x 1 - Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775)
    £5.99 x 1 - Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)

Followed the tutorial on page 2 of this thread and was having problems ( pc was resetting and reverting to original settings )

The only difference I have done to what the tutorial says is as follows :

    FSB set to 350
    memory set to 3.00 ( instead of 3.20 )
    memory +0.3 ( default I beleive is 1.8 ) Geil sticker says it should be 2.1 )
Set Core voltage one option down ( 1.41xx instead of the 1.4225 thats shown in pic )

    CPU_Z says the following :

    ** CPU **

    Core Speed - 3150.2 MHz ( tiny 0.x fluctuations )
    Multiplier - x 9.0
    Bus Speed - 350.0 MHz
    Rates FSB - 1400.2 ( tiny 0.x fluctuations )

    ** MEMORY **

    Frequency - 525.1 MHz
    FSB:DRAM - 2:3
    CAS# Latency (tCL) - 5.0 Clocks
RAS# to CAS Delay (tRDC) - 7 clocks
    RAS# Precharge (tRP ) - 7 clocks
Cycle Time (tRAS) - 24 clocks

    Command Rate (CR) - 2T

    EASY TUNE reports :

    CPU FAN = 958
    SYS TEMP = 46
    CPU1 TEMP = 42

    Vcore A.: =1.38
    V3.3v: = +3.290
    V+12v: = +12.110
    V cpu vid: = +1.280
    V case open: = Open

    ------------------

ALL AT IDLE - Not tried to stress the thing yet :D

I was wondering if this is fine ??

Or where Have I gone wrong ??

All depends on the memory itself(D9s modules can take it) , but agree for 24/7 its high.
