    Hi everybody,

I'm a heavy CAD user, but not too much into hardware, so your help will be much appreciated. I just got an Acer quad core 6600 for modelling/rendering and it has a ATI HD2600Pro. I would very much like to turn it into a FireGL, but there are some concerns:

    1. How to start? I've downloaded the drivers, but found more than one .exe file. Which is the right one, Setup.exe? If not, is there any procedure to be followed?

    2. If something goes wrong, can I go back and reinstall the original drivers?

    3. Any certain risks that you know to be associated with this, eg overheating?

Please let me know if you can help and thank you,
    Tavi

    Hi

I already have my new PC working, but the internet connection decided to die coinciding with the update, so everything is being a bit more difficult

I'll post my benchmarks tomorrow (preview: I got around 130 in maya)

the mod works mostly fine; I always get a "catalyst control center" error (it doesn't work at all), but everything else is ok: no artifacts, speed (in maya) seems to be quite good (definitely faster than my old pc, by a factor of up to 6X for complex scenes; I haven't tried the card in radeon mode yet, though, so I don't know how much the mod helps), dual monitor works, and so on

for tavi: yes, setup.exe is usually the one; yes, you can go back; no more heat than with standard radeon drivers, the only risk is having software glitches, which I haven't had so far (apart from the CCC issue, which doesn't seem to matter for anything important)

Does anyone knows if I can use 3d shutter glasses with this mod? i know that the radeon cards don't have the connector for the glasses, but I have the ones for the geforce card, that have a dongle for the glasses. I was thinking of using this with ArcGIS software.
    Thanks

    Hi guys.

I bought new gk HD2900pro ( hope there will be chance to softmode ) so I try softmode it for FireGL8600, used above posted drivers for HD2900XT (without included ACCP because I have instaled newest one)... SUCCESS !! lets see Specviewperf 10 results :

    Win XP sp2 - 32bit

    HD2900pro @ FireGL 8600 (512MB)

    SPECViewperf10 - RunViewpef 1600x1200

    3dsmax-04 38.23
    catia-02 36.16
    ensight-03 39.35
    maya-02 169.46
    proe-04 32.91
    sw-01 78.28
    tcvis-01 25.75
    ugnx-01 23.08

I am very satisfied with results as I expected performance is worst than HD2900XT, pro version is underclocked XT but there is always solution - OC pro to XT or more, but tax for that is worst GPU fan noise ( XT with factory fan "big red hoover" in full load do worst noise than pro ).

    HD2900pro was bought for - 251EU=345$

I am working with CATIA and some others CAE so I wana test it directly in apps in several next week, will posts results in time :)

I think mine says 1/60 (again, I don't remember for sure, it sucks not to have internet working at home)

    what does that number mean?

EDIT: sorry, that's for regular catalyst drivers!!

I think this number shows what OPENGL instructions can your card process inside graphic processor on hardware level. We all heard for term "unlock professional capabilities" ...well bigger the number...bigger the capabilities. In other words (at least in previous moding experience) gaming cards have lower number than firegl or quadro. My HD2600pro had 60 and when moded to firegl3600 it has 62. I think this drivers we are using to mod cards are not 100% firegl because we should have this number around 80.

My x1950xt has 88 (moded of course) - not moded it has 56 (!!!!!)
    HD2600 pro moded 62 - not moded 60

I dont think Im expert but my suspicion is that this mod only unlocks small percentage of "professional capabilities". I whould like to hear what other have to say about this.

    sorry, I don't have xsi

and I don't know how much openGL this mod delivers, or if that matters at all, but I can tell you: now maya is very, very fast, compared both with my old system and with the unmodded 2600

EDIT: sorry, my mistake!!! I went back to regular catalyst a couple of days ago, to see if I could get CCC to work (I have .NET now, and it is still not working... but that's both for standard catalyst and for the modded drivers... awrrr... hate not having internet at home...). So that 1/60 is for HD2600XT. I'll install the modded drivers again today, and tell you the v5600 number tomorrow

Hi all, okay i downloaded GLinfo and I also find GLinfo2 from same source Delphi3d.net, for mine HD2900pro @ FireGL8600

GLinfo - show 62 Supported pixel formats (instructions?) as u post for HD2600

GLinfo2 - dont shows nothing.-) but.. dont know that for sure, u must add up "extesions" yourself, every "extension" if you click on it will in IE shows info.. somthink like in GLinfo1 "supported pixel formats" .. when i add up them all I computed 89 supported extensions (instructions?) of my card, from Opengl version 1.0 to 2.0

Realy dont know if that two values means same.. but looks like yes. If anyone knows that tell it here.). And values shown in GLinfo1 dont know surely that but this piece of soft is from year 2000!! - 7 years old... ours ATI HD2xxx has all OpenGL 2.0 hw support and this Glinfo1 is too old to be capable report newest GL instruction... so i think thats not sure X19.... has for 1/4 more supported instructions because it has only OpenGL 1.5....

Realy dont know, I am not some OpeGL expert, in true I dont know nothink about that.) and i also didnt want to say klipi have not right in it, maybe you have and HD realy has less instructions.. dont know, but this GLinfo1 valuest for HD looks strange... .) extensions from Glinfo2 looks better.. 89 is near 88 for x19... @ FireGL card and 1 hw instruction more in one GPU generation looks good to me .)

If you want, try GLinfo2 too ( http://www.delphi3d.net/hardware/glinfo2.zip ) and add up extensions for X19.... and other ati card generations, lets see if values will be same as "Supported pixel formats" in GLinfo1. when yes maybe we will discover truth about it:)

    hi there,
i have some question about this mod and the 2600xt video card.
i'm going to use Maya and i found 3 different type of 2600xt:
    1) 512MB RAM DDR3
    2) 256MB RAM DDR4
    3) 512MB RAM DDR4

the first 2 cases have almost the same price, the third one is around 170$-180$. so what type do you suggest? it is more important have 512MB of RAM or it is better have 256MB of RAM but faster?
i mean it is more important the quantity of ram or the speed of it.
maybe they are both important so the last solution is better i don't know... can you help me please?

the last question about this mod:
are the driver for both vista-32 and xp-32?
there are news about the driver for xp-64 and vista-64?

    Thanks
    Nicola
