you can use a older version....1.3.0.0 will workor if you can find it the version that was modded for Audigy's. I was using ALchemy yesterday:)

I'm hearing a FLAC file using foobar, spdif toslink and an Onkyo ht-s970. The front speakers are both pointing towards my ears and at the same level.

The instrumental song is called Fields of November, by The Fawn String Ensemble (Norman Blake).

The violin, Jesus, I can feel nuances I never heard before.

    Could it be psychological?

Gonna have to hear it again using the onboard's realtek sound device, but I'm lazy.

Whats its purpose, does it jump to the beat... I'm glad my case doesn't have a window. It can flash all it wants.

The X-Fi Prelude reminds very strongly on the design of the CL prototypes X-Fis. (two memory chips, flash LED and much more)

Those *******s at Newegg are at it yet again. X-Fi Prelude is now $230.

And I was just about to order it and a Razer Copperhead...

Well after trying lots of different settings and messing with the contol panel I can say that it does sound 100x better, I would say on par with the Razer.
I hope after some of these driver updates it would be even better.
One question though does optical out work with 5.1 with this card I cant seem to make it work in game mode.

IT does sound very good. On par with a X-Meridian or very close. You won't be able to get 5.1 in gaming mode over digital because you need Dolby Digital Live or DTS. These features will be added later on to the card. Until then digital will not work for 5.1 gaming.

Awesome review Rob. I know it sounds better than a Creative X-Fi but does it sound better than an X-Meridian? Or about the same? Are there any real difference you can here between the X-Meridian and Prelude, purely on a sound quality level in music and movies not on feature set like EAX.
