8600 GTS will run DX10-games poorly, it just doesn't have any power. I bought my 8600 GT because of it's price an performance. I paid it 125€ (euros).
if its really only the choice between those 3 cards i would say go for the 8600GTS, no point in going backwards right? But if you wait a little while longer and save enough money to get a 8800GTS then do it, the card is amazingly powerful for its price. I have one and its awesome!
man.. there's a lot of crack going around the users on this forum.. oblivion doesn't require jack to run, so the fact that you get any improvement in oblivion without changing from like a 5 series or worse to a 7 or 8 series has got to be a joke. I mean come on.. the 7900 gs smokes the hell out of the 8600gt.. anyone who tells you otherwise hasn't run them, or doesnt oc.. I'm using an 8600gt right now, while my 7900gs is getting rma'd. I knew I shouldn't expect a difference, but I thought maybe, just maybe having dx10 would help lost planet run better. I'm sure by now you see the sarcasm in this post, as I can't wait for my gs to get back so I can return the 8600 gt.. It's as much if not more expensive and a step backwards..
I think that right there is the best answer there. I just got my Radeon X1950 XT for the same price as an 8600 GTS goes for here. It is considerably faster than the 8600 GTS (not to start any ATi vs Nvidia flame wars). The 512 MB version of that ATi card would do better in higher resolutions but it's almost as expensive as the Geforce 8800 GTS 320 MB which is much faster. If you'd really really rather have an Nvidia card, I would just go with the 7900 GS. It's a good card at a very good price.
i suggest a fusion reactor core power supply upgrade along with a quantum video card. "it'll run space time calculations! it'll simulate reality! i suggest dx10 8600gts because of higher resale value over a 7 series or 1900 series. vrzone had some success with destroying benchmarks with it
The 8600GT Does not Beat the X1950 Pro in Oblivion Tests altogether the X1950 Pro is better at DX9 than the 8600GT http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=712&model2=725&chart=294
True but it performs similarily to the 7900GS as stated in this thread and it shows it beats out a 7950GT and the 7900GS
Neither, 1950 pro much better value for money, but if you're an nvidia fan, 7900GS... Odd guru3d guys that you have a deticated ati and nvdia forum :S, don't most people care for value for money and not for brand?
IF your looking for the best bang for your buck then none of those cards you list would make my list - well maybe the 7900gs cause it can overclock like mad. Other then that the true bang for the buck right now is the x1950xt for $169.99 and after rebate it is $149.99. Take any of those cards and benchmark them in dx9 against the x1950xt and you will see the x1950xt will beat them all and especially with aa/af + hdr enabled. I like the new hardware from both ati and nvidia but these x1950xt prices are killing nvidia's/ati's new midrange cards. DX10 has yet to be optimized and then your still looking at next generation dx10 hardware to play most dx10 games smooth. If you not into dx10 then the x1950xt would be the best bang for the buck card available. If dx10 is your thing then 8800gts 320mb is your best bang for the buck card with dx10 compatibles. Just a suggestion to yah. Your choice.
I just stumbled on this, any thoughts about the price? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814134023
2nd. The 8600GT does overclock very well, and the GTS isn't too shabby either. But neither will outperform an X1950 Pro or 7950GT. In fact, in most games the 7900GS is faster than the 8600GTS.
That is true but in Oblivion it takes to ATI Cards Im merely correcting this mans decision that the X1950Pro is beaten by the 8600GT in Oblivion which is very well wrong.
