While we're on the subject of "why does vista do this?"

when i try to play most games my screen turns into flicker madness.
Basically its a bunch of scalines flipping down the screen usually when i try to change resolution or start the game. Alt-tabbing fixes it but the moment i try to run a game (as opposed to already in game and trying to play) the flickering starts again.
Vista's just got tons of surprises :)

    1. Are your temps ok? The card temps to be exact.
    2. When did you start getting that kind of screen corruption? Or it was always like that?
    3. Do all games give you the same problem?
    4. Have you tried completely removing your driver, and reinstalling it from scratch? (Yeah, nvidia uninstaller should take care of that, but maybe it's not the case..). You can also try using the Guru3D (XDC) driver cleaner.
    5. Do you have any Vista incompatible video driver tweaking utilities installed? Try removing them.

    Good luck!

try messing with your clock settings a little bit. I have to overclock my memory by 10 mhz and all is well. Vista for some reason doesn't like the clock settings

Your thread title says "Vista is doing this". Is Vista your sole OS? If you still have XP or dual boot with it does it occur there as well?

hmmm, funny i get flashes that resemble those dots every once in a while in vista, that are only in the top left area of my monitor roughly around the my computer icon and the recycle bin icon. The same dots also appear in my openSuse 10.2 install, i've noticed everyonce in awhile. They do not appear in winxp pro sp2 though. The only difference I think is that Vista and Suse 10.2 are both 64bit and XP Pro is 32 bit. xp driver is 93.71, linux driver is current driver and vista is like 158.24 i think.

Those dots would be your video ram artifacting

That looks like hardcore artifacts due to a over heating card :(. I wouldn't follow any advice to turn up any tempetures. Good chance your card has hit it's thermal limit.

it looks like that but its not... i'm sure its a driver issue. 10mhz from stock is hardly turning up the temp anyway.
It seems to work for people so if it doesn't work for you... you can always RMA to evga even when you modify the bios... they are good with that kinda stuff.

Well when it flickers on my end in vista 64 and linux 64 the temps are high 40's to low 50's. It doesn't happen in xp 32 for me though.

Windows vista is damaging your video card.

run ati tool 3D test and see if it artifacts, simple as that, ohh and you have to disable driver signing to get ati tool working along with about 1000 other applications, grrrr. anyway that will prove temp/artifact theory

Rivtuner was good, it asked me whether I wanted to enable unsigned drivers and it just restarts if you click yes and then everything fully works.
