    Propably not yet possible

I'm not sure that is currently possible with current FireGL drivers. Why? Because x19series uses a R580 GPU http://ati.amd.com/developer/vendorid.html and today no FireGL cards use this GPU so there is probably no code for correctly handling the GPU in the ati2mtag.sys driver.

I am a noob who wants to soft mod his X1800XT 512

    Hello people

To be very honest I have NO knowledge on how to change my X1800XT 512mb to a FireGL. Call me stupid, Noobish, what ever. Im willing to learn.

What i do know is to install Rivatuner but thats all. I see scripts for the softmod, but there is so many scripts and I am not sure which one to use and where to put them in riva tuner! :behead: I really need a workstation card for Softimage XSI and Adobe products.

I already PM'd huangyanhao with this exact same question , but he seems to have vanished from this thread for awhile now.

Also, once i mod the Radeon to FireGL, will i be able to reverse back to Radeon if i dont see great results?

    Thanks in Advance! :)

Also redundent but will some one willing to be Hero and make it all simple in layman's terms :ying:

Everything you need to know is already explained in the PatchScript for FireGL 8.293 thread.
Instead of PM-in huangyanhao, you should have read the entire thread first.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to work this! Sorry, I have been a Mac user for 15 years and am new to PCs. I would really like to try modding my x1600xt to firgl 5200. I have read a ton of the forums and downloaded and run Rivatuner, but I cannot figure out how to run the script.

Please dont beat up on me too hard...Im a noobie, kinda.

    To maestro0428

    Download 8.293 firegl driver.
Paste the script into a txt document
And change the extension of the file into 'rts'
When you double click it works
    Go and patch the Ati2mtag.sy_
    Then
edit the CX_44078 file (in tehe firegl driver folder)
change the lines 71a0 into your device id (learn from riva tuner graphic susystem diag)
    "ATI FireGL V5200" = ati2mtag_RV530GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71a0
    "ATI FireGL V5200 Secondary" = ati2mtag_RV530GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_71a0

    Then goto control panel
Select the video card and update driver , have disk
    Seolect the patched file

    Thats alll

24bit texture in Maya OpenGL with ATI?

In Maya, running FireGL with 8.293, all textures are 16 bit, which sux. Banding galore.

With my old Quadro, i could set that in Nvidia control Panel to 24bit. How is that set with ATI FireGL? Is there a manual override in Maya? Is everybody running OpenGL apps with 16bit on ATI FireGL?

Surely... it can't be so.... :help:

Have fixed the 16bit color issue. Installing CCC seems to have reset something, and OpenGL apss are now running in 32bit. strange, but ATI drivers seem to be a black box, and kinda sloppy about retaining settings.

I am still not sure about about some part. First of all I have x1800xt(512mb) R520, can it be moded into Firegl 7300 or 7350 ? As far as i know it can be moded into 7300 but huang said before that it could be mod into 7350 ? can anyone clarify this since I thought 7350 needs cards with 1gb ram ?

assuming that I am moding the card to firegl 7350
should I do the part where i need to change the device ID in the c2_36758.inf? My device ID is 5950
    Original
    "ATI FireGL V7350" = ati2mtag_R520GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_710F
    "ATI FireGL V7350 Secondary" = ati2mtag_R520GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_712F
    to this ?
    "ATI FireGL V7350" = ati2mtag_R520GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5950
    "ATI FireGL V7350 Secondary" = ati2mtag_R520GL, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_5950

    no difference ?

I think I have properly installed the softpatch and install the FireGL control panel. My maya specviewperf score was 8.32 before softmod and after softmod was 30.84.

On things that troubles me is that I am using maya 8.5 and I try and render my own scene files but I notice there was no changes at all, its like I never softmod it all render times remains the same. Do i miss anything ? Do maya has its own FireGL driver ? to optimize its performanace ?

Yes, you did miss the fact that Maya full quality renders are CPU based.
FireGLs and Quadros will not speed up your renderings. It will only speed up the viewport performance (wireframe and shaded).
GPU only matters in hardware renders which are mainly used for previewing and certain types of particle simulations.
