What is currently the best AM2 X2 chip + SLi mobo combo that could
    hit 2.8GHz ~ 3GHz+?

I've been reading a lot about some insane results with the Brisbanes.

Board wise, I'm totally clueless. I use to have a Crosshair and it was
pure headaches. But that was months ago so maybe things got better
    now.

What about the DFI NF 590?

Id have to recomend my board, its the asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe, it has two 16x PCI-E lanes, and has a very easy to use bios for overclocking. I didnt do alot of overclocking before this board now im overclocking every thing. It managed to get my X2 4200+ at 2.9Ghz stable with the 800Mhz ram running at 1080Mhz with no problems. Its an amazing board and if you didnt know already ASUS have a good reputation with quality motherboards and overclocking.

Honestly, my feelings are mixed about an Asus NF-590 chipset board.

My experience with the Crosshair was a nightmare. But still, maybe it
was pure bad luck that I ended with a board that was unstable even
when sticking with the Asus QVL.

Another board aside the DFi one I'm also considering is the Abit AN9
    32x Fatal1ty.

The only think to watch out for on this Abit are the expansion needs since it has only one PCI slot which is so close to the second PCI-E slot that it would get blocked if using even the SLI terminating card, not to mention a graphics card with a full-sized cooling solution.
