By the time the R600 family is hitting the market, Nvidia will already have mid range products, as well as the 8900 series.

they could have made a lot of money by releasing the top models just like nvidia did ...they do not want to admit to problems so they say hey let's release the whole range of cards at the same time cuz it's so cool !!!yeey we're so cool !!!
    :))

AMD/ATI's decision is not as stupid as it appears. High-end cards cater to a very small market, with less than 8% of all graphics cards sold carrying an average price of $200 or more. For new generation cards the big bucks are in the midrange segment and since nVidia doesn't have any cards in this category on the market yet there is little pressure on AMD to come through with theirs either.

Also, manufacturing only one series is much more expensive on a per unit basis than producing a whole range at once, which means that the R600 cards will cost less to produce than the 8800's and hopefully this will translate into a more affordable high-end product for the consumer. nVidia's decision to launch their flagship cards while their midrange series are still unavailable may be rewarding publicity-wise but this likely translates into little or no profit, or even losses, for them.

Shouldn't "we can ship r600 today" mean we can ship it today, and not 2nd quarter?

^^ :S yes they do, what a smart comment lol.

Anyway I dont mind waiting, there isnt any DX10 available games and the top range ATI cards right now still rox dx9 (my 1900XT 512 mb is still fighting on strong a year down the line). Only ppl buying 8800's are enthusiasts who must have the lastest products, or ppl buying whole new computers because their old ones just do not cut the muscle anymore. I was gonna get an 8800GTS, but looking at the nvidia threads it jus doest seem very wise. I built 1 GTX system about 3 weeks ago, but i sold it yesterday for a profit because the driver support for the 8800 was just so damn terrible.

The smart will wait. If your card still runs games fine now, then whats the rush. Most of the ppl that have posted in this thread have v nice cards (i see quite a few 7900's and X1900's). If not then buy an 8800, im still waiting for my ATI replacement, and have no qualms doing so ;)

Why wait for the ATI R600 when you can just buy the 8800GTX today and start enjoying playing your games @ the highest settings. For example I can play all my games @ 1920x1200 rez with the highest in game settings....:smoke:
