I'm currently planning on upgrading the cooling of my system to keep up in benchies :eek:ver:
I'm hopping that by doing so, I will finally be able to stabilize 2.8GHz without worrying about overheating. I currently have a Big typhoon, so i am wary as to the fact that these coolers will even bring much of an improvement, as I can just slap on a higher CFM fan like the white Silverstone one and get a similar temperature dissipation. But this new cooler master one has ALOT more surface area, and can mount 2 120mm fans. ITS HUGE! I'd use the silverstone fan on either one.

    Cooler Master Gemini II:

Also to replace my video card cooler, I'd like to get a Thermalright HR-03. This is to replace the stock x1950 XT cooler. I'd slap on a Tornado and some nice copper ram sinks.

    Vantec Tornado fan:

    Any questions, comments, other recommendations?

the upgrade for your graphics card seems reasonable to me, but that cpu cooler seems awfully heavy and could damage your rig if it's not securely supported. take a look at this link and see if you can improve on the big typhoon first http://www.overclock.net/amd-air-cooling/150195-how-extensively-modify-your-thermaltake-big.html

and on a not so pleasant thought, seriously consider that where you are at now maybe all the oc you're gonna get on air, it's a possibility but that's up to you if you try for more. what temps are you getting under load?

    Thanks alot for the link!
Like 52*c under Toast and X-Stress. 58*c of I get it to be stable at 2.8GHz. Thats why I am worrying.

Although that cooler is 'epitome of aircooling', practically this does not mean alot, it will not help lower you're temperatures enough to acheive that overclock you want and IMO, its not worth spending a single penny on a single core computer, If you've got the money just upgrade the cpu, as an opteron 165 or otherwise will serve as a much better base to score high on benchies, Im finding it difficult to believe it needs so much volts to reach 2.7ghz :(

you're welcome for the link, and I also agree with dipz, If you need that much voltage you're more than likely not gonna get any more outta that chip. go for this instead http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103588 read the reviews, as of right now(my opty is running stable at 2.70Ghz @ 1.325v @ 48c full load using orthos beta@ priority 9 for over 2 hours. and I'm using a bigtyphoon not modded yet.

I agree with the reviews on Newegg regarding the Coolermaster Gemini II. It's simply too big. I personally recommend the Tuniq Tower, though the Big Typhoon should handle it.

The Thermalright may be too big as well. When you actually see it on the card, you'll notice right away how massive it is.

Cooling issues can usually be solved by looking for problems with in case airflow, rather than the heatsinks themselves.
IMO, the next step up from the Tyhoon might be water. However, you probably are better with putting the money towards an Opteron 165.

Ok It looks like I'm going to lap the BT and throw on a Silverstone fan.
As for the HR-03, I definitely want to get it because of its sheer size. I think a Tornado will see it through :dave:

    Have you considered liquid cooling?

Well, if I were to go liquid cooling, I'd have to get the best. I'm obsessive compulsive like that, "go big or don't go at all".
Seeing as I could buy a new processor and 2 GB of ram for the price of the kind of setup I'd want, its out of the question. I'd also need a new PSU for all the new radiator fans and the pump. Maybe on my next rig.
