i originally bought my X800XT for a combo of gaming and media performance, but problems with some of the buggy ATI drivers led me to say scroot and just move a tv into the kitchen (where my compies are set up)...

after looking at the video card rating link i found here, i realized that my dual-core / pci-express knowledge is terrible - i never had the $bean to consider, but now i'm wondering:

after drooling a bit at X1900XT's and X1900XTX's, can they be run in a plain 'ole AGP slot and function properly, or are they strictly for PCI slots?
i really don't think i'm ready to upgrade both a mobo AND a vidcard...

Barring that, which is the best AGP or non-PCI-E vidcard that ATI makes?

i feel a mad purchase coming on!! :)

The best and current card i'd recomend is the X1950pro AGP, ideally the sapphire one.

Which would run really well in your comp, psu's fine, cpus good to go and plently of ram.

Plus these cards are cheaper now.

roger that - i've just been looking at pricing for that card..

i found a great comparison list of just about all vidcards, linked somewhere in here, but the list didn't indicate which were PCIe's, and which were AGP's...

and i've been up after only two hours' sleep with NO caffiene input - since rectalfied! - and my head was swimming...

thanks for the quick reply!! :)

the difference between AGP and PCI-E version are VERY VERY VERY minimal, no real difference.

Is that an AMD athlon 64, or and Athlon XP. Im pretty confused lol...

I gather from that proc speed and '3200' its an athlon 64. If so yeah the above card mentioned should be ok to tie you over till u can get a new comp. Wouldnt expect steller performance in new games due to the bottleneck though (unless you overclock ;)), but should play most stuff just fine :)
