from wikipedia artical on the R600

    "270 W for Dragons Head and 240 W for Dragons Head 2 [13]
Dragons Head require one 2x3 pin and one 2x4 pin power connector, while Dragons Head 2 requires two 2x3 pin power connector"

    and

"The redesign will also address providing a new 8 pin connector [31] for additional power on top of the current 6-pin connector. [32]"

yeh so does this mean we will nead a new psu to power the X2900 XTX or does it mean that it is room for future PSU's that may come out??:paranoid:

Your probably gonna need a Tagan 1100W to power it lol

lol, if you have a good psu now you should be fine but I woudlnt expect to pull it off with an el cheapo as it will probly become a time bomb. I would think you would need a psu atleast 600w with good amp ratings on multiple rails.

a good psu will indeed be nessecary, but i suspect a good 500 would do the job if its got enough power on +12v. comparing those numbers with g80 specs, id say you would need about 8 to 10A per card more than an 8800gtx(145W according to nv)

but keep in mind that its still just guesstimating.

not untill those numbers are confirmed or proven wrong.

270W is not again sure.. thsi info was given with the pics.. and today peoples know this is only for a specific card..

    http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=37614

now... if 270W is real, it's not really a prob... for cfire it willl needed see if an adaptator can be use for this 8x pin PCI express.. in this case perhaps yes.. anyway no prob for me.. i was knowing this before. and like my CPu need more of that at 4.2-4.3ghz...will need more power

... the Toughpower 1000-1100 Watt have be officialised today by Thermaltake and there's the 8 pin connectors... certainly a lower model (7xx-8xx) will come soon.

8a-10a more would mean that nearly every psu on the market will no longer cut it,as the 8800gtx takes about 13-18amps, and most psu's only have about 18-20amps on each of it's gpu rail, and thats just for single gpu, if you think about crossfire it's even worse as then you won't even be able to try and combine rails to get more than 20amps which is what you will have to do with a single R600 with most psu's , and I am talking about 8800gtx sli certified psu's her. It would be cutting it real fine and you wo't be able to overclock with a regular single 8800gtx certified psu. At the moment the only psu I would say would cut it for R600 crossfire is the silverstone op1000 as it has the two 8pin connectors that you would want and has a single 80amp rail which is ideal for these bloodthirsty cards. Yes the R600 reatil will have one 8pin and one 6pin connector. The reasoning being that you can use two 6pin aswell, but if you want to overdrive and be safe that you put in one 8pin and on 6pin instead.

an 8800gtx doesnt take 13-18 amps, but about 12 at max(based on the 145w official number, assuming all the power comes from the connectors and nothing from the pci-e express slot which also can deliver up to 75W)

edit; btw, thats a reason to doubt those power figures. the pci-e 6-pin connector is specced to deliver 75w(6,25a), and the pci-e slot also 75W, 75+75+75 = 225W, which means that 240w is way above spec for the power delivery.

Probably a good quality 500w/30A PSU would fit the criteria, so the El Cheapest will likely be around $100.

not really, the silverstone olympia also has that connector, and you can be sure that there will be adapters.

I have not say only this PSU work... ( specially i m not a fan of thermaltake PSU...)

you can be sure adaptator and other PSU constructor have them...

so then it looks like there are sevrel options we can use with the r600 but before getting 1 i am going to have wait for the r600 to come out first as i want to check it works with my mobo:bounce:

Actually there is a thread here.. talking about the R600 with spec this time given by AMD..

one yes there will both 6pin and 8pin and each are backaward compatible with the other.. so this will say you can use actual PSU if they can handle the min AMp and spec for the R600.. connector will not be a problem..

Now.. if you part of peoples OC a lot the CPU and the GPU's in cfire.. it's clear a good PSU will be needed, like today..
