Is it possible to run 3DMark03 with only DirectX8.1? :help:
I have at moment no reason to update to DirectX9. And don's want to do that only for 3DMark03. It would just be nice to run it to test stability of my old overclocked GF4 Ti4200. Don't know whether Car-Chase and Nature from 3DMark2001 are stressfully enough for video card as stability test.

Well, you could loop the 3DMark01 tests for x hours with your video cards settings maxed out.
That would give a fair indication of stability. :)

Dx 9 is backwards compatible, so there isnt much point not using it.
but 03 should still be 8.1 times, aqm3 ran on 8.1 so 03 should also.

    3DMark03 is a mix between DX7-DX9.
He would be able to run all tests except the last one 'Mother Nature', due to lack of DX9 support.
But the runnable ones will surely torture your Ti4200 just fine. :)

I tried to start 3DMark03, but got message "direct3d.dll not found"
Just looked for other good(!) stress tests and found:
For video RAM: Artifact Tester 5 (and Nature with highest details in 3DMark2001 infinite loop)
For GPU: Car Chase from 3DMark2001, also with highest details and infinite loop.
At 594 MHz RAM clock I got some so-called "ArtifactMarks" in software-test from Artifact Tester 5, with Bitmap-Set 2. But saw no incorrect stripes in Nature; so I think Artifact tester is more precise. At 580.5 MHz (the next clock I can set into video BIOS) always 0 ArtifactMarks.
At 319.5 MHz GPU clock I had short freezes after about 5 loops Car Chase.
At 317.25 MHz it run ca 12 times with no error, but after returning to desktop by "Esc" the desktop was particularly corrupted :bugeye: . Though all this tests with fans on slowest RPM, to simulate summer. :eek:c:
I think 313.875 MHz GPU are possible everyday? Or rather 310.5?
Concerning the fractional MHz-values: The video card "accepts" internally only this values, I suppose (found out with several tools).

PS: How much ArtifactMarks (that means pixel errors) do you get with Artifact Tester 5 at current video RAM clock? ;)

you can easily install DX9 with that card, and 3dm03 will run (it did on my old GF4) but your score might be a bit sadning, my old GF4 Ti4800se (4400 agp 8x) didnt even score 2000 points

There is no reason NOT to install the latest DX updates.

They aren't just for video, they're also for sound and other things too.
