    Quadro FX3500
I have purchased a quadro fx3500 a couple of days ago in ebay.
I don't know if I have made well.
I saw the 8800gtx and it works with native directx10 and quadro fx3500 with directx 9.0c

And fx3500 have 20 pixel pipelines and 7 vertex units and 256MB GDDR3.
One question (for someone that have it): is it posible unlock to 24 pixel pipelines and 8 vertex units? like fx5500...

Now I think that I'm wrong. Was a good idea to purchase fx3500 now? with the new architecture of dx10 and new windows soon?
    The card costs $725.

    What do you think?

EDIT: my last card were a XFX 6800GT --> QUADRO FX4400 (now is in my computer, until the q3500 arrive), more reason to say, worth it?

First, you cant unlock anything, newer cards than 6800 Ultra are totally locked.
Second, the Quadro FX 3500 will definitely be faster in pro apps (especially if you use Linux), so i say it's worth it.
But if you play mostly games and use DirectX more than OpenGL, the 8800GTX is a much better choice.

Thank you for your reply AlecRyben.
You think that the change for the quadro fx4400 worth it?

    Thank you.

Well, I would have to try a Quadro FX 3500 in order to compare... (i don't trust SpecViewPerf much), but changing the cooling solution on that Quadro FX 3500 with a better one (NVSilencer) and overclocking to at least 7900GT speeds comes to mind though... ;)

I purchase this because I saw this review:
    http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/quadrofx-vs-firegl.html

Without this modifications, is worst than fx4400??? I hope that no, because have more pixel pipelines (20 vs 16) more vertex unites (7 vs 6) and more frequency (470 vs 400mhz, memory 1320 vs 1050mhz).
QFx3500 frequency is more than the 7900gt (that have 450mhz)... Do I need to overclock more?
In theory fx3500 should be much more faster, (without saying that the new core is much better than the before core). What do you think about that?????

But I'm very worried because only have 256mb and I would lilke that would have 512mb ddr3 (I wanted a fx4500, but is so EXPENSIVE for me...) and for this, I'm worry if I have made the correct... :(

And other thing, what nvsilencer works with fx3500? I saw that nv silencer 5 works with fx3400 and fx3450 but don't say anything about fx3500.

    Thank you.

All in all, i think you got a good board, although i would have got a softmoded ATI 1800XT -> FireGL 7200/7300, because it would be much easier on my wallet.

Onboard memory is not that important, since you probably bought that Quadro for doing mostly wireframe/solid shaded work.

You should ask arctic cooling about which NVSilencer fits the 7900/Q3500 PCBs.

I think that I sell my card (when it has arrived...), because I'm obsessed for the 512mb of memory.

Obsessions can be costly - especially when you start paying for therapy... ;)

I know, but the FX3500 is much better than FX3450.
You can see the texel rate, that is more than double.

the difference isn't that big depending on which app you are plaaning to use ;)

Texel rate is only important for older fill-rate dependant games, it doesn't do squat for wireframe speed or shaders...

Then, you are saying that my change from 6800gt@quadro to quadro fx3500 don't worth it?

It always depends on the application. If you do only wireframe CAD, you can easily go with the old card and forget the upgrade.
But, you will be playing games too, right? ;)

I work with Softimage XSI, Zbrush and any other applications, but with textures too for animation and rendering, etc...

And yes, playing, but very few times.

Well, let me put it this way: the 3500 may not be a great jump from your modded 6800 Ultra, but you will have peace of mind that it will work in XP64 or Vista 64bit without NVStrap, since we all know NVStrap will never be available for them due to MS requiring WHQL licence...(=costs lots of money) ;)
