There seems to be little difference between R520 and R580. The latest 8263 driver worked perfect on my X1900XT card.

Apparently they do Alec mine's modded using FGL 8.263.
Did loads of research but still I wasn't sure so I tried Huangyanhao's script, added my hardware ID to the ini file and it works. The only missing thing is the FireGL control panel setting that I had seen on other modded card- the performance is there though. The R580 seems to be recognised the same as R520/530, there is apparently little difference- or ATI screwed-up slightly!

According to Rivatuner the clocks are running at 621Mhz GPU and 720Mhz(stock) ram. I haven't tried to see what it will do overclocked.....yet. CPU is a64*2 4400 clocked mildly to 4800Pr-ish 2480mhz. These settings were used for both SPEC 9(posted above) and SPEC 8.1 for comparison.

SPEC does not seem to want to use my CPU at 100%, or all of the 2gb of ram- which is odd. AMD and MS patches/reg settings are applied.

    Results below.

    another test result

Just for fun I ran viewperf 612 (as it takes relatively short) today and to my surprise the result was about 150% compared to the one of yesterday. Upon just a short investigation, I found extended monitor option was turned off.

I ran viewperf 81 for verification and the result was not upto 150% but there was obviously some improvement on single mode. Here is the updated result.

Considering the results of V7300, V7350 at tomshardware site, I have a feeling that my card may be utilizing all its 48 pixel shader. I guess I should upload this result on spec.org site, hehe...

mikeswlee, just comparing results(having run SPEC8 and 9) there seems to be several differences- you're running C2D(stock speeds?!) with half the amount RAM, I'm running AMD- albeit not at stock speed. The other difference would be the line in the ini file, you modded v7300 whereas I did at V7350- perhaps there is a difference with the driver recognising the different cards? Could you do SPEC8 and 9 Runall with the hardware ID in the V7350 ini line? I will do same with V7300 sometime tomorrow.

For reference and out of curiosity I tried a very mild overclock of the card(Connect3d X1900XT 512mb).
SPEC 8.1 and 9 below, overclocking the card seems to make little very difference in performance. Some of the results are higher but some stangely enough are actually lower than stanard clock! (FGL 8.263)

    AirbornAV,

Yes CPU type and GPU clock must be one of the factors of the result difference. But I doubt if using V7350 line will make any change as there is only RAM size difference between V7300 and V7350. Also I am pretty much sure the driver cannot make my card 1GB RAMed one. Anyway I will try and post the result later.

The machine I use in the office has ATI 9800pro which I bios-moded to 9800XT and there was no reason to hesitate to softmod it to FireGL X2. Actually the card could not bear the high clock of XT (412/365) so I decreased to 398/350 which was still higher than pro (378/338). As the latest 8263 driver did not include X2 I used unified 8062 instead. The viewperf 81 result is very interesting compared to my home machine.

    moded FireGL X2 128MB(unique!!!)

Obviously X2 cannot defeat V7300 but it does against X1900XT. Not bad at all to be used as mid-range workstation.

    Thank's BENDE,
do you have any idea where to (try) find this solution.???
I use it for work with MAX, now with catalist 6.8 its seem slower (in panning and zooming) than my GeForce 5750 with dual monitor.

Thank you, huangyanhao! You've done a hell of a job and a real breakthrough with your second patch script! I tried it on my Sapphire Radeon X1600 Series, using 8.263 driver and here are the results for SPEC Viewperf 8.1:

    Radeon X1600 Series:

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\CATIA\SUMMARY.TXT

    Little gain on games

Was wondering how this is possible just by driver tweak. Today I tried to run an opengl game (actually it's an RC flight sim) and my OS hang so I changed the configuration option set to opengl games which worked.

    However, I could feel no difference so I ran viewperf 81 again and the result was;

soft FireGL config set to OpenGL games

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\UGS\SUMMARY.TXT

Only a little gain compared to catalyst driver so even with FireGL cards, there will be little gain on games as games don't utilize 100% of opengl instructions.

However, I don't think there is a guy who uses FireGL card for game purposes so no complain at all. I still get huge improvement on 3D apps like 3Dmax, maya etc...

We better keep this among ourselves since if this is known to everyone and no one buys those crazy expensive FireGL cards at all then apparently ATI (now AMD) will do something to stop this. hehe...

MY friend, why you are use the second ,not the first, your card is 1600 Series,it can works with the first script.your card can softmod to firegl5200,but you don't do it.

At first I used the first script and did all correctly, but after reboot I got a message "CPLIB :: Open Session - Failed to load the library" from windows event viewer. I could see the configuration tab in ATI Control Panel and Solidworks realview worked, but SPEC Viewperf 8.1 Test results were twice worse than Radeon X1600! The first script is unusable for X1600!
All went smooth with the second patch script and I got an improvement of 3 times the result of Radeon x1600!

Do i still need to replace the lines at the begining and middle of script like the tutorial on how to do it (SoftFireGL w2k.rts), or do i need to find a complete script for my x1600 (RV530) and use that? it seem like the video card I am using is not on the script i found. What do i need to do?

I copy that from huangyanhao on guru3d forums, is this a complete script?

    thanks for your help

I don't think I'll be switching drivers from the soft-mod any time soon.
Absolutely phenomenal performance in Unigraphics and Solidworks
    Games work great too :)

That's the thing, games still work great. Not any quirks resulting from firegl drivers, not a significant performance drop... I was thinking of dual-booting with two windows installations (one for biz one for pleasure) for firegl and radeon separately but it figures that there is no need for it after all.

right there with you mike, don't spread the word guys :D .

    Very nice huangyanhao.

I have a Mobility Radeon 9700 is there also possible to get a script for that card?

    X1900 Aiw?

    Hi All,

First, thanks to Unwinder for so much effort and patience. Thanks to huangyanhao as well.

Second, has anyone tried this on a X1900 AIW by chance? I'm thinking it will work, but wasn't sure. I realize that AIW functionality would probably be lost. I did do a search first, to see if anyone had asked this already, but didn't find much.

Thanks in advance for any insight you all might have.

You can forget about using AIW functionality with FireGL drivers.
FireGL cards don't even have TV out functions (no S-video or composite outputs)!
