Hey everyone. Just recently bought and built a whole new system with great parts (i thought) but fear still cant run well on high settings and even can be choppy at medium settings. I didnt blow nearly 2k on new parts to play on lowest settings. My 3dMark 05 score wasnt too high either: 8623. Please give me any input on what the problem could be and how to raise FPS and overall performance on this brand new rig!

    6600 Conroe
    7900gt
    2 gig xms corsair 4-4-4-12
    asus p5w delux
    OCZ gamestream 700w

3d mark score: 8623 (is this low for this system?)

yep I'd say that is way too low for your spec. I take it you've got the latest drivers/bios etc??

...............thing is when I first ran 3DMARK05 on my new rig a few weeks ago, mine, I only got 10883!!! After installation the lates drivers/updates etc it runs like a a dream

I would have thought your score should be around the 10-11,000 Mark????

Actually, your score is about spot on for a stock system. Yes, you have a conroe, but it's only running @ 2.4Ghz and your card is presumably still running stock as well. I'll also dispell a common myth, a Conroe is not loads faster than an AMD X2 is clock for clock. Your Conroe @ 2.4Ghz is roughly equivalent to a 2.6Ghz AMD X2

Also let me show you my single card score with my opty @ 3Ghz...

for comparision, the highest scoring 3Ghz conroe and a single 7900GT on ORB

i still dont understand why it is so low, i have all the latest drivers for the video card. are there any other things that I can download to help my scores. even for a stock that score seems low to me.

Your score is not low for the clocks you are running. It's right where it should be. What did you expect? An 11k score just because you got conroe? While that is very possible, you will need to OC your CPU and video card to get there.

People, conroe is fast not doubt, but it's not magic, you will still need to OC if you want big scores.....

Shouldnt i atleast be able to play fear on medium settings without a problem tho? that is what i dont understand. I KNOW that this rig should be performing better than it is

You'll gain a lot by OCing your video card. FEAR is still quite the demanding game.

Yes, that score is perfect...spot on for stock...people still think the conroes are so good they will make ther computer awsome....

Overclock and you will get about 10k to 11k

Looks about right to me. I would think you should be getting more in F.E.A.R. though. Make sure all your Video Card drivers are correct etc. Try and OC it will make a huge difference!

Are you joking??? A conroe at 2.4Ghz is a E6600 and I can tell you it's much faster than a 2.6Ghz AMD x2.

I know fear is a demanding game and with AA and soft shadows on, you need a $1000 video card to run it smooth. However, You don't know what ur on about if you think a 2.4 Ghz conroe is the same speed as a 2.6Ghz x2. Games require everything to be fast, not only the cpu, but the whole system. Sure, an AMD x2 with an x1900xtx or a 7950 gx2 in games would beat a conroe with a crappy video card, but a conroe with a high end card would smash the pants off an AMD x2 with the same. Look at the pro gamers and benchmarkers??? They all use a conroe and rock the sox off any AMD cpu.

Just cos u got an AMD doesn't mean you can't be open to a different cpu that is obviously faster. Even AMD owners know that.

Yes you should be able to play FEAR maxed I do it easily with barely any OC and a 7900GT is easily better.

    I'm getting 13579 on 3DMARK05 with my AMD 4600 64x2 Dual Core

    http://service.futuremark.com/orb/projectmanager.jsp

2nd Highest AMD'd 7950GX2 onthe 3DMARK05 Lists and 3rd Highest on the Futuremrk website, think I'd a give conroe a good run for its money. Also this was standard card Clocks and modest O/C of the CPU.....tra lalala la

ROFL at the person who said you needa 1k graphics card to run it smooth. Good job look at the FEAR club and say that again

lol, er can you even buy a $1000 Graphics card???

think my 7950GX2 "superclock" EVGA would have worked out to be $770 USD (paid £410.00 in the UK) and that took the pi** in terms of "crazy" purchases... lol

Well then what could be wrong with my system? i meen the hardware is brand new. is there any way to check if its running right? for instance, check if the RAM is running at DDR800? cant seem to find that. I am just pissed becuase i spent so much money on this computer thinking it could handle all the games out there. Now it can BARELY play fear. something has to be wrong.

OK, for the last time. Your system is fine. You need to OC your card & CPU if you want better performance. 2.4Ghz conroe is not a magic pill that will cause everything to skyrocket unless you OC it. Your card is also only at 450/1320 OC the card and you will get nice improvements in FEAR, trust me....
