Well my from my previous "quick question on windows xp cds" i got a laptop and i was going to format but never did because of the hassle now my friend was on and click on some link in aim and got me a virus i cant get rid of no matter how many times i can and delete so now I really want to format. I talk to HP to order a windows xp cd but it is 50 bucks! thats crazy When I use the windows xp I already have it says it cant find the hard drive I know I have to press f6 and install the drivers, but I do not have a floppy drive I have no idea how to do it in nlite, can anyone help me here it is http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1832444&lang=en&os=228 Intel 945GM Express Chipset and here is the driver i need to install http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...oduct=1832444&lang=en&softwareitem=ob-39535-1
May i ask, what steps did you take to clean the virus ? Did you check out the links in the sticky (first part, look for SP2 slipstream guide) http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=155424 http://www.nliteos.com/guide/part2.html http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=28005
i dont have a floppy I use Norton and AVG Free and Adaware all in safe mode and scan it finds a bunch of viruses and then my system is good for a few restarts or shutdowns and then they come back and try to spam all my friends on aim thanks for the quick reply i will look at those i know how to slipstream sp2 already will integrating the drivers install after windows or during the part where i should press f6 EDIT: I have another question I was looking through your FAQ and noticed the USB Flash drive boot up thing is it possible if I format it as A that I could make windows think its a floppy?
It may be possible, though I am only guessing here...is that you might have a boot sector type virus. Norton, along with quite a few other AV programs...is notorious for not being able to get rid of a virus...much less quarantine one. What is the name of the virus? Another thing you can do to completely wipe the drive, is to download the ISO image (if the manufacturer's site has one) to create a bootable CD with the hard drive's diagnostic programs. That way, you can do a low level format of the drive and wipe out all the data...including the boot sector.
Trojan Horse Downloader Genereric.HGT and Trojan Horse Dropper Agent.ALO i am at a friends house right now I will have to check in a few hours when i get home Then whats a good AV program you would recommend
Trojan horses are a different breed of virus...and basically work like a real program. They need a registry key to launch (at startup) and a program file or files to aid the program. You might try a2 Anti-trojan, or Ewido Anti-Malware to remove the virus. You may also need to use Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy to help remove the remaining adware programs this trojan downloads and installs. That particular trojan likes to hide out in your Temporary Internet files folder...and even in the Documents and Settings folder under your user name. Try and boot to safe mode if you can, log into the Admin acct (not yours) and then go into the Documents and Settings folder for your user name and delete all the temporary files from Temp, and Temporary Internet Files. Delete all the files from the C:\Windows\Temp folder as well. Here is another post from a forum with the same problem. You might have to look down the list for the programs found and remove them from the system. If you use a registry cleaner like RegSeeker, you can also use it's registry search and look up the names of the trojan files and remove the reference keys so that the registry will not launch the virus. If you are not able to remove the virus, keeping it from launching at startup should enable you to find and delete the trojan manually. http://forums.spywareinfo.com/lofiversion/index.php/t79398.html
1. I know you don't have a floppy thats why i pointed to the option of using the default Windows driver. The way i read it, this is after using F6. But instead of pointing to the floppy (S) you use the default Windows driver (ENTER). If this is the same as not using F6, then i misunderstood it. 2. The SP2 slipstream guide part, has links to nLite Guides. 3. Downloaders and droppers are usually browser attacks or some exploit, they serve as vehicles for other malware. Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Agent.alo http://research.sunbelt-software.co...jan-Downloader.Win32.Agent.alo&threatid=44691 Get NOD32 (or Kaspersky), Ewido and Superantispyware install and update, enable Ewido's active protection. If you really want to get rid of this infestation i would suggest getting a firewall with some good program/component control or a stand-alone tool like AppDefend http://www.ghostsecurity.com/index.php?page=appdefend , SSM http://syssafety.com/ , Online Armor http://www.tallemu.com/Online-Armor.php , (All trial versions. Just use one of them). This type of program will help lock down your system to avoid reinfestation. I would also check the HOSTS file \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC) and the "Trusted sites" under Security (internet options). Disable your system restore (This is important). Run CCleaner (it's important to clean the cache and temp files). Boot in safe mode, run CCleaner again to pick up any missed file that might have been locked in normal mode. Let both NOD32, Ewido and Superantispyware scan the system (When running NOD32 it's best if you change the scan settings on the "Setup" tab to included all options, it will take longer time but be cover more). Boot back in normal mode and run a web scan http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html (can clean), http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/ (can clean) , http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner (Only scan, no clean) Post the log if it finds a infestation, you can also post a hijackthis log. NOD32 http://www.eset.com Ewido http://www.ewido.net superantispyware (don't worry about the name it's a good program ) http://www.superantispyware.com/ Firewalls; Pretty much any popular will do (e.g. Jetico, Comodo, Outpost, ZoneAlarm, etc.)
im having trouble integrating the driver it takes about half an hour to do it and it gets 99% done and says the file name is too long and then the iso is like 4 gigs and i cant even make it any ideas?
So have you completely given up on cleaning the system ? ---- Hmm what files are you using ? I mean you can't use the HP thing, that's for making a floppy with the driver on. All you get when you extract both files (sp32478 then F6flpy32) is a "temp.IMA". The exe on HP's page is 17mb http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...oduct=1832444&lang=en&softwareitem=ob-39831-1 This one is small and has the files you need. They are the same as the ones made on the floppy (i tried it). http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-62909 This is the files found on the floppy (there is a few more files in the small D/L i pointed to above, just ignore that or remove them): iastor.cat iastor.inf iastor.sys iaahci.cat iaahci.inf license.txt readme.txt txtsetup.oem iaahci.inf << This is the inf you want for - Intel(R) 82801GBM I/O Controller Hub (ICH7M), using AHCI. Point nLite to this inf. "Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller" is the device manager name (when using AHCI) and - "Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH7M)" should be the name used in the list presented to you on XP install when using F6. Apparently AHCI is a BIOS setting. Your BIOS may have a HD setting for "RAID/ATA" or "RAID/AHCI", using the latter causes the HD to be missing. Some have change mode after install, but im not sure it's good practice more like a fix. The post quoted below is NOT using your Controller, but it's the same thing you just replace the "Intel(R) 82801FR SATA AHCI Controller" with your "Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller". However as the fix was not tested on your Controller it may not work for you but i can't say. What version of XP are you using ? (SP1, SP2 or no SP). I keep reading the install info given by HP and it sounds to me like later versions of XP (SP2 maybe) might have the driver you need. So if it's not a SP2 CD then i think using a CD with SP2 might do it as well. You still use F6 but just point to the drivers on the CD (ENTER).
couldnt he just install recovery console and do a FIXBOOT and FIXMBR and just completely write new Boot partition ? after a SYStem clean of course
I don't see how that will fix the driver problem. Are you referring to a boot sector virus ? If so only FIXBOOT is safe NOT FIXMBR
well yes i have given up on cleaning it, i would rather just start fresh i have used the exe to make a floppy on my desktop and then copyed the files over to my laptop i do point nlite to this driver iaahci.inf << This is the inf you want for - Intel(R) 82801GBM I/O Controller Hub (ICH7M), using AHCI. Point nLite to this inf i am using a windows cd with no sp and integrating sp2 into it i will check my bios in a minute and see if that works thank you ani for looking into all this for me, if this works you should add it into your faq EDIT: I just check my bios and I have like 8 options and the only one that has to do with hard drives is Native SATA Support On/Off is there like some secert dell bios im missing?
To answer one of your previous questions. Even though you are learning "how", the painful route of intergration....if the laptop supports USB devices, just grab you a $20 256MB key and load up the drivers to that...when called for, point to the device.
i have 2 usb thumb drivers, a 128meg one and a 1 gig one both where on sale for 5 bucks and 19.99 i did put the drivers on a usb thumb drive and when i pressed S during the installation it didnt see it my mobo supports it i saw it in my bios
I don't understand the problem your having with the ISO and i really don't know why it would be 4GB in size. Double check the guide just to be sure.
