Been trying to overclock my 6800XT AGP card...

    Running @ stock = 300/700 MHz

Overclocked it at first @ 350/750 MHz

Now I've tried to overclock it to 350/780 Mhz and when I try to test the settings in coolbits, it says that the test failed, but when I try to test it again, it passes.

I've also replaced the stock cooler with an arctic silencer 5 REV.3, the temps under load don't go above 61 C. It stays at about 50 C Idle.

I've been running ATI tools to watch for artifacts, half-life 2 stress test, and rthdribl, which tests for card under HDR rendering @ DX9.

I haven't seen any artifacts yet.

Is it safe to be overclocking it still, or should I stop once I get the messege that the test failed?

    Thank you!

If you canĀ“t overclock, at least try to unlock pipelines in rivatuner.

I bought an xfx 6800xt that uses nv41 core, and I have it running at 480/1150

    Already done...

I got 6 vertex pipes and 12 pixel pipes.. :p

try disabling vertex and oc again, maybe one or 2 of the unlocked vertex is defective and you can get more oc without disabling pixel pipe.

If you havent seen any artifacts in atitool keep pumping a few Mhz at a time.
Also constantly check temps. Try and check is the way to go.
The moment artifacts starts to appear you know you will hit the limits and its time to drop a little.
    Good luck.

    Well...

I disabled all the unlocked pipes, and it didn't make a difference. :p

I'll try to overclock it with rivaturner and monitor everything.

Strangely enough though, when I overclock the card to 350/780 MHz and run the stress test in half-life 2, I get an average of 89.37 FPS

When I have it @ 350/770 MHz I get 76.19 FPS... quite a jump, it's rather strange lol...

Ran it with FRAPS to be sure. :p

    Yeah....

Strangely enough my performance goes down the higher I try to clock my memory, so I think I'll just stay at 350/780 MHz... :|

There is a way to disable the tests.

With Rivatuner, go to the Power User tab.
    Go to Overclocking Global.
Find Disable Internal clock test, I think you either click or right click and you select the yellow light bulb.
Click apply and teh test thing has been disabled!

Not sure if it works with the new Rivatuner, worked with 15.7 version however.

bloodsilver, the memory on your card isnt a real bottleneck, before i had my XTs i had a LE which unlocked to 12/6 and overclocking the memory gained next to nothing in performance (i could easily do 850 mhz instead of 700), for real gains, the best to overclock on that card is to go for max corespeed first, and test the memory later on

MY xt is the same way higher memory crappy performance. I was able to hit 500/800 though out of the box

use rivatuner. coolbits always hung for me. got mine as far as driver will allow (on stock cooling). can control fan speeds with rivatuner 2 which is great. also you wont need fraps as you can get rivatuner to put framerate & temps on screen.
might drop oc on memory to c if i get faster fps (just kept pushing as far as i could go)

edit: just tried it and got a drop in fps. gone back to high memory oc. dont care cos.........

ITS MY BIRTHDAY AND IM GETTIN XFX 7900gt in post.........yippeeeeeeee
