Hello guys and thanks for reading this. I'm a complete noob regarding power supplies. I'm using a miniPC, from biostar, here are the computer specs : http://www.biostar.com.tw/products/barebone/ideq/220m/index.php3 I recently bought myself a geforce 6800 ultra, which requires a 350/400W power supply. Thing is, I don't know which one to buy, brand, size(may it be different for miniPCs ?), and should I look for infos concerning voltages, etc ? Help !
a 6800 ultra????? wtf you could have saved yourself a bunch money by getting a 7600gt for under 200 USD and has the same performance. plus its much smaller then the 6800 so it will fit in that SFF(its called a SFF small form facter, not mini pc) better. AND uses WAY less power. how much did you get ur 6800 ultra and from where??? those things are not made no more
Unfortunately SFM (small form factor) PCs usually are equiped with moderate power PSU's. Also manufacturers avoid to produce high Wattage PSU's as the demand in the market is low. So your best bet is to go with the best quallity you can find. there are two of them i came across. One is Enermax SFX 270 W -> http://www.enermax.com/english/product_Display1.asp?PrID=36 and the other is Silent X 300W -> http://global.shuttle.com/Product/Accessories/PC50.asp
most mini-pc's use a totally proprietary power supply so you can't run out and simply buy a better one.
you dont need 350w/400w unless you are going to OC it because i have 2 6800 ultra that are 512MB and running in SLI and my PSU is 500w
Yeah, those SFF power supplies are totally custom, the manufacturer is the only one you could possibly get a new PSU from. That listing mentions a 250 watt PSU, which probably will be fine given that shuttle SFF boxes often ship with those too. You could also think about a small matx case, silverstone makes a pretty nice one, though of course they are significantly bigger.
