Sorry can not help you with the volt mod , if you are going to put a pot on the V/C and have no idea where to test the volts , why do it .I can run games at 1920x1200 settings high BF2,GRAW@500/1400

You're right, I would never make a mod without being fully aware of where to check things like voltage. But someone else has to know how to check the volts, and I wouldn't mind running my core at 650 like some people are doing. This is, after all, a G71 7900GT core! :)

I just noticed that Sandra 2007 reports that I am running at AGP 8X but that Fast Writes are disabled. Any point in eanbling it or will it compromise stability?

    Hello.
    Gainward 7800GS+ arrived today.
    I ask question.
It is displayed with 20PP/6VP when I read RivaTuner.
    Is this right?
    And
    Core temperature becomes 77 .
    Is this right?

OK, Fast Writes are now on! :) FM, can you please confirm how you volt modded your core? Pencil or pot? Could you please post a pic of the exact points to check voltage on? Also the points to solder the pot on to, if you used a pot.

Thanks a lot. I'm gonna go run some more 3DMark benches at 1600x1200 4X AA and 8X Aniso to see if Fast Writes has helped at all. Also, I've noticed that this card is sucking on my 3.3V rail like a beast. It never used to drop below 3.2V with my X800 XT PE, now it's going down to just below 2.9V under full load, and I've even maxed-out the 3.3V pot on my PSU! Man...:frown:

By contrast even at 1600x1200, I find AOE3 ever so slightly stuttering with all the eye candy maxed out and running the card at 510/725. This was before enabling Fast Writes. I will see if FW has helped that problem.

I see that Overclockers UK ships international, but does anyone know if there are plans for distribution in North America?
I saw the question much earlier in this thread but noone seemed to know.

Not likely, considering Gainward pulled out of the U.S. market a while back.

Thanks for that Luvabud. Have you done the same for your 7800 GS+ ?
What core speed are you running at now? What was the core maxing out at before the mod?

    Not that's not right.
You've got the non + model there. If you were lead into believing it was the GS+ you might have been conned. It should have 24PP/8VP.

This is what it should look like...

Make sure you have the latest version of rivatuner, just in case. You can download it from this website, i think it's v2.0 rc 16 unless they've updated it again. I can't see that being the problem but it's worth a try just in case you're using one that doesn't support the gpu properly.

If it's still the same and you were genuinely led into believing you were buying the GS+ model then yes you were conned. Does the box actually saying 7800GS+ 512mb or just 7800GS 512mb?

    RivaTuner is 2.0RC16
I bought this from Overclockers UK.
I think that I send mail to the shop.

Yes contact them and tell them about it. If you want to be 100% sure then download everest and see if that also recognizes only 20pp and 6vp's. I really doubt there's a prob with rivatuner but it might be worth making 100% certain. Then you should contact overclockers and demand a replacement.

About the Vmod / Modding questions:

1.) it's not possible to mod Vmod in Nibitor. It's also not possible to adjust fanspeeds. If you do that you will neither notice a change in noise nor in airflow.

2.) I would prefer pencil mod over Pot mod. Why? It is fully reversible, you physically don't have to "touch" the card and gives the same results.

Just pencil this resistor to the value of your choice:

    default resistance - 1,66kOhm - gives 1,2V GPU
    slightly pencilled - 1,5kOhm - gives 1,3V
    heavily pencilled - 1,4kOhm - gives 1,4V

To measure V_GPU, just use one of these points that are labeled as "1.2V":

My card was pretty hot at 1.42V, so I increased resistance again to get 1.28V which still gave me a nice clock bost of 50Mhz.

Yes, I tend to agree with you on the reversibility aspect of the pencil mod. Thing is I don't have my multimeter with me and won't have access to it till I get back to base early next week. Are there any programs out there that reliably report GPU Vcore? I could then mod the card straight away. :)

also i am running my card at 1.41 volts

my last post below ( i used a volt meter to test my voltage but you don't have to )

i am still keeping a look out for a memory volt mob but can't find anything atm :(

my cards fine looks okies :)
