Hey guys, so i just ordered a TT Big Typhoon for my computer.

I lapped the bottom of the heatsink (400g, 600g, 1000g, and then 1500g)

added a THIN layer of AS5 to the cpu

installed, tightened the bolt (i swear the H bracket started to bend a tiny bit unless my eyes are decieving me)

booted up..ben running for like 15 mins.... temp is 35C !?!??!

my temp with the stock AMD was 38C....

    whats the deal??!

idle temps usually don't differ to much, try OCing, see if the load temps are much different, if not, then you've got a problem.

That's pretty high I think, my stock idle temps are like 28c-32c.

well im not sure what the problem is, i noticed that my chipset temp has also hit 57C which is an alltime high ...... i had to remove my 2 side fans because the housing that came with my case no longer fit because of the BT .... could it be that my case temp might be too hot?

my video card seems to be running hotter too....

  5. boycott thermalbake.

his temps might be higher than yours because his ambient is higher.

load temps are what matters and where the biggest change in temps will occure. even on water idle wont flux much.

if you removed the side fans that is the reason. try messing with your airflow. point the rear exhaust fan in .

is that really a wise idea? i thought that was always a bad idea because of the heat from the psu getting sucked back in

Dude the big typhoon is copper so it will retain the heat made in idle more than the stock did so even with more airflow on the CPU heatsink it will still be warm. When I had the intel stock cooler here is what happened.

    Stock= Idle38C Load 54C or so

    B. Typhoon= Idle 33C-36C Load 41C-44C

Big difference on my end. I hope it works out for you.

hrmm, well maybe im freaking for no reason, i just added a side fan, and then ran prime95 Large FFTs and looks like my max load after about 5 mins was only 41-42C

also give time for the as5 to set in

if you remove cast fan thatw ould also do it big time. i got 2 120 mm fans in mycase.

wow thin layer? I just put a BB pellet sized amount drop on and then my HSF spreads it as should...

Eric is right, you should put like a grain of rice or bb pellet on the center of the heat spreader. Know why? because the actual cpu is not as big as the heatspreader(way smaller). The heat transfers faster through the heatspreader to the heatsink in a straight shot then having to travel to the outer edges of the heatspreader then to the heatsink.

well i went ahead and reseated my heatsink.....took off the old AS5 and reapplied a new spread by just placing a bb sized drop in the middle of the cpu....lets see what happens i guess...so far im looking at the same temps....hopefuly it will go down a degree or two once the AS cures

Well, I applied some as5 to my opty thinking it would drop idle temps and it didn't, so far(been almost a week). Then I heard someone say full load temps is what drops not the idle temps so I'm stuck guessing if my temps went down or not. Oh well. It makes sense though, the better heat transfer at higher temps.
