Well, in fact I've chatted many time with people from the US and each time I asked 'em about what they were taught in geography, I got weird answers. But anyway, these may have been isolated cases. What you say is not wrong: most people don't see the interest to know about places they won't go.
Hey we got ocean on both sides. But we aren't big and ARE right next to France. .........I'm confused, how does that give us an excuse for knowing stuff?
Uhmm, you only have one ocean, the Atlantic Ocean Then you have the North Sea, the English Channel, and the Irish Sea You know what always amused me. The French never knew where Minneapolis/St. paul or Sacramento was, yet would be *shocked* that anyone wouldn't know where a major French city was. This was despite the fact that both cities urban areas are larger in population than Marseille (the second largest city in the country). The Brits were not as bad, but it was still there. Its not that Americans are ignorant of geography, its that people are always ignorant of geography that isn't near by. You have 5 seconds, point to Bhutan on a map.
Vienna is the capital of Austria, - Whats shown as Switzerland on the picture is Czech republic ---- used to be CzechoSlovakia but then we separated. I am from Slovakia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovakia
Holy f***, that's true ! Stupid me ! I should have said Prague then... Aaah, I should get some more sleep these days.
Hey I was sleeping/working, that no fair. errrrr..... it's errrr. I have no idea. I don't know where Minneapolis is either. We had a choice of History, RE, or Geography in school. I choose history. In my defence I know where all the locations in Tomb Raider Legend are.
You see, its a universal ignorance. Minneapolis St Paul is northwest of Chicago, has more than 3 million people, and is home to Target, US Bank, 3M, Cargill (World's Largest Private Corp), Travelers Insurance, Land O'Lakes, Northwest Airlines, General Mills, Worst Buy and more. Its a rather significant city. But its really cold, they can't drive, and speak with a funny accent.
I,m from the south pacific paradise of New Zealand, city of Timaru, everything is so close here, drive 2 hours and you can go snowboardind,2 hours the other way and ya can go surfing or other water sports, great food also
Heh, never would have thought so many others lived in the east of England too - I'm from near Ipswich myself, though those of you in Norwich, Newmarket or Cambridge might of seen me staggering around a little drunk before now.
I did that without thinking because someone early suggested them so i just copied and pasted them PS USA is not a continent either
The USA was spawned by the UK so that makes em special, plus the fact that they arent actually attached to the mainland.
