Ok, so I did get the game, installing it right now, but after reading the forums I want to have a few things clear What do I need to edit in my .ini file to play it well, with this rig? What are good/adviced mods to get, to have a good/funny playtime, and how do I install/control them? Other things I should remember, not forget? P.S. I now there are more threads about it, I only want to have it clear so I won't make any mistakes etc.
Check out the elderscrolls forum, THIS THREAD will give you an idea of the communities favourite mods. The LOD texture mods are a necessity as far as I'm concerned.
another persons going to get the oblivion fever.... yeah you might struggle runnin it like morbais said your going to need to tweak it.
Doh, yeah didn't see you were looking for performance tips. There have been a few tips on this forum on editing the ini, just use the search function. It might be worth checking out OLDBLIVION which backs off the shader models and lets older cards function. It may offer some performance increase on a 6600, but at the cost of quality (it backs the shaders off to DirectX8 versions).
You dont need the oldoblivion. I can run oblivion just fine with no AA, 16AF, 1024x768 all things maxed except no cast shadows except for actors. It doesnt run great but I average 15-20 FPS outside with perfect smoothness indoors. The simplest thing to do it just use google.com to find tweaks and guides for it. Its takes a little time to do but it really pays off in the end.
Good luck with the tweaking .. check the oblivion tweak guide at Tweakguides ... it basically covers everything u need for now ... u can always go through the ini manually if u have time ...
i highly recommend the one at tweakguides....infact i recommend all the guides there....very well done site with goof explinations on most things
first get the lod land mod and get the natral enviornment mod thos two are a must then here is what you should do to your ini file for your setup [Water] fAlpha=0.5000 uSurfaceTextureSize=128 SSurfaceTexture=water SNearWaterOutdoorID=NearWaterOutdoorLoop SNearWaterIndoorID=NearWaterIndoorLoop fNearWaterOutdoorTolerance=1024.0000 fNearWaterIndoorTolerance=512.0000 fNearWaterUnderwaterVolume=0.9000 fNearWaterUnderwaterFreq=0.3000 uNearWaterPoints=8 uNearWaterRadius=2000 uSurfaceFrameCount=32 uSurfaceFPS=12 bUseWaterReflectionsMisc=1 bUseWaterReflectionsStatics=1 bUseWaterReflectionsTrees=1 bUseWaterReflectionsActors=1 bUseWaterReflections=1 bUseWaterHiRes=1 bUseWaterDisplacements=1 bUseWaterShader=1 uDepthRange=125 bUseWaterDepth=1 bUseWaterLOD=1 fTileTextureDivisor=4.7500 fSurfaceTileSize=2048.0000 uNumDepthGrids=3 bUseObliqueFrustumCulling=1 and [Grass] iMinGrassSize=170 fGrassEndDistance=8000.0000 fGrassStartFadeDistance=7000.0000 bGrassPointLighting=0 bDrawShaderGrass=1 iGrassDensityEvalSize=2 iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure=1 fWaveOffsetRange=1.7500 fGrassWindMagnitudeMax=125.0000 fGrassWindMagnitudeMin=5.0000 fTexturePctThreshold=0.3000 and [SpeedTree] iTreeClonesAllowed=1 fCanopyShadowGrassMult=1.0000 iCanopyShadowScale=512 fTreeForceMaxBudAngle=-1.0000 fTreeForceMinBudAngle=-1.0000 fTreeForceLeafDimming=-1.0000 fTreeForceBranchDimming=-1.0000 fTreeForceCS=-1.0000 fTreeForceLLA=-1.0000 fTreeLODExponent=1.0000 bEnableTrees=1 bForceFullLOD=1 fLODTreeMipMapLODBias=-0.7500 fLocalTreeMipMapLODBias=-0.2500 this should speed things up and make things look better
Darkasantion, you would see a huge leap in performance if you were to put a real, uncrippled Pentium 4 in there instead of that Celery. If you have a SKT478 MOBO, look for one with a C after its name, NOT an E. If it is a LGA775 socket, the board should support a Prescott with no problems at all. And faster RAM would be a big help, too. Is yours an OEM machine?
478, but what do you mean with C and E? No OEM, bought it in the days I didn't know much about is Upgraded from Athlon XP 1600 However I'm saving now to get a laptop and after that a complete new rig, however to survive another year it might be P4 time! And more RAM is a bit to much, because I move on, so don't want to spend to much on it, altough I had a great time with it. And will wait for Conroe, older ones are cheaper then, 3.2 GHz version is now €220,- And that's the one I want if I'm going to get one after all! 3.4GHz isn't avaible here
I noticed a big improvement after installing the LOD landscape mods (as mentioned in tweakguides), FPS increased and much smoother movement, gameplay.
uhhh to make oblivion run very smoothly wht u can do is first get the forcewareultra 84.56 driver from guru3d... install tht wit performance settings in mind... nd den download the 1.1b patch from oblivion main website install tht... it shud work like a charm... workz for me... u try it now
the forceware ultra drivers gives you a install options of 3 profiles : perf. , Balanced , quality .... http://www.tescreens.be/oblivionmodwiki/index.php check this site out for all the mods you need ...
