Just got my Taxs\refunds and want to upgrade few parts on my comp...but i really dont know what i shoud buy for CPU. I know there is some AMDX2 dual core processor out there, but ive always used single core processor and i would like to have some infos on thoses X2 and what kind of performance they will deliver on Games. First i though of going whit an FX Processor but finaly i found this a bit too much expansive\crazy for my taste.

PS: I will be adding a second 7800GTX to make SLI by the same time, so i dont want to be like "bottlenecked" to low FPS because of a poor CPU...

So what CPU would you go whit, if you were in my boots ? and why ?

Thanks in advance for the replys\infos! ;)

as you can see from my specs ive got an X2 , and got to say im loving it , got an xtra 600 pionts in 3dmark06 , and if thats the way future games are going an X2 will help , dont get an FX go for the 4800+ and overclock , get a decent cooler (arctic cooling 64 pro is good) then add a second card in SLI if uve got enuf money , dont think u will bottle neck them with an X2 , thats what id probably do anyway

Alright thanks, that's probably what ill do ;) Ill buy the 4800+ and will overclock it. Ill be using Koolance Water cooling systeme to overclock it ;)

Opteron ? What you mean the best way ? need some explanations whit that...

Yeah i also though of doing this but im getting my second card soon and right now it's not on the market and also ill have to buy new mobo to fit the socket new ddr2 memory....

if your going to overclock, get an opteron.
Its better memory controller allows a higher stable overcock than the a64s.
the the more mhz, the less of a bottleneck

Yeah but i dont want to OC as hell, especially because i never did it before. Just want to get from 2.4Ghz (4800+) to 2.6Ghz at least so it would be like an FX-60 hehe

well, you should still get an opteron i reckon, because of the better memory controller and your pretty much guaranteed 2.6ghz
