I have a thermaltake pipe 101 hsf and in the specs it says that it is compatible with amd sockets k7 and k8. The mobo I am going to get is going to be 939 does that fall under k7 or k8???

    S939 AMD CPUs are K8.

K7 is for Socket A (AthlonXP)

No you don't. I'm not sure about the mounting mechanism though. K7 and K8 mount in totally different ways, so there is probably some piece that you'll have to fish out to make it work properly. Perhaps someone with experience with this cooler could chime in.

Stock coolers arent that bad for the amd64s cause of the lower heat output of the chips, if your cooler is really old it might not be better than the stock ones. Anyways, when you're buying your chip just look at how the stock cooler is setup to mount and make sure your aftermarket one has the same parts.
