can you guys just give me some feedback on what you think about this rig AMD Athalon64x2 3800+manchester 2000mhz $300 Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro-SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD $100 CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM $80 most likely a x1900xt 512mb for $450 i already have a hard drive and my case and a psu. i have a around $900 to spend. does any1 have any suggestions for changes in anything any feedback is aprecciated
I'd return those Corsairs and get Samsung ram. Read the sticky about RAM. Samsung will probably be cheaper too. If you can spend a little more and get an Opteron 165 instead. That's what people told me to do lol. But if you don't plan on overclocking I guess it doesn't matter. Only thing is why get a x1900xt on a SLI board? Either get the A8RMVP by Asus for CrossFire or switch your card to an nVidia like the 7900GTX. I'd personally get the A8RMVP Board and keep the X1900XT.
yes, I have suggestion, change that 3800+ to an opteron 165, because the 3800+ manchester has 2 512Kb L2 cache for a total of 1Mb. The opteron 165 has 2 1Mb L2 cache, for a total of 2Mb L2 cache. They're about the same price, and the Opty will almost guaranteed clock higher than the 3800+. P.S. why get an SLI board for an ATI card? change that too.
sorry kinda didnt notice the the motherboard thing,it was kinda a combo deal at newegg.dont worry i havent bought anything yet. btw is the A8RMVP as expensive as the one i suggested?
Whoever told you that was on crack. Running single channel RAM on an AMD system can be crippling. Dual Channel is a basic feature of AMD A64's - you don't want to exclude it! It's effectively running at half the bandwidth.
Get the Opty 165, i'd suggest a XP-90 Copper heatsink for more extreame overclocking, which you'll be doing, i've seen people hit 2.7GHz on stock cooling so you'll be good. 1 GB is fine for now, but i'd see into 2 GB, the Mobo is actually fine if you plan on going to Nvidia, but if ATI is your absolute turning point then get a crossfire Mobo. Besides that everything looks fine, tell me how it runs.
