What performance gains do i get by giving my cpu more voltage. My cpu can run at any volatage from about 1.2 -1.4 what is the differace besides for the heat. And what should my voltage be for my Athlon X2 3800+

Athlon 64x2 Vcore is 1.35V. More voltage can (or should) be applied to obtain a more stable overclock - an unfortunate by product of course is heat. The same principle can apply to your RAM as well. :)

But if I put my cpu voltage to 1.225 my pc is stable is there a problem?? Am I losing performance gains coz at this stage my cpu temp is at 40 degrees c load
but at 1.4 I get 55 what should I do??

Sounds like your case ventilation isn't up to scratch, my temps are around 32C idle and 47C loaded @ 2.5GHz 1.4V. If your system is stable at lower voltages then your OK and no you wouldn't lose any performance.
