***sigh*** I view the original Xbox and the new Xbox 360 with a mixture of respect (the type of respect that one should give to something potentially dangerous) and disdain. The original Xbox was nothing more then an M$ attempt to make a PC a closed platform that can only run M$ software (and make no mistake about it, the Xbox is nothing more then that). The same seems to be true of the Xbox 360 but only this time the PowerPC seems to be the platform that is being locked down and closed off to M$ exclusivity. Now I can see why M$ would want to do this in much the same way I can see why they want to invade our living rooms with their new push of tech like M$ IPTV,…all in the name of the all mighty dollar,…. Perfectly understandable,…. However, the PC platform is an open one,….at least for the time being and any quasi successful attempt to close it should be IMO viewed as potentially being very dangerous. There have been a number of companies that have attempted to close the PC platform and sell services that they provided to said closed platform PCs,….but many of them have failed miserably. The original Xbox wasn’t necessarily a success since many people bought Xbox consoles simply to use them for what they really were “cheap PC” and M$ definitely sold the original Xbox at a loss. The Xbox 360 is probably being sold at a loss as well. I half suspect that Xbox 360 will be hacked and used to run Apple's OS-X by industrious individuals. I don’t hate M$, well not totally anyway, but it is wise IMO to not simply swallow whatever they are feeding you. I buy there products but I think it is wise to buy with caution,.....make that extreme caution!!! If not, we will all have tattoos on our backside that read “property of M$”, there will be a M$ logo on the moon (on the side that always faces the earth) and we will all have to sacrifice our first born to the mighty M$ Gods in the sky (and have to pay royalties for doing so) .uke2:
just wanted to mention... the new connect3d gto's seem to be locked. at least some of them, but potentially all new batches. the gto2 however (100% success rate, remember) is back down to a decent price of 209USD@newegg
Nice price indeed for the Sapphire X800GTO2 at $209. Not as nice as the reported ~$150 price of the Connect3D X800GTO VIVO card but better odds at unlocking and OC are worth it IMO. BTW, the new Catalyst 5.12 drivers (with dual core support???) has pushed my 3Dmark05 score up a bit from ~6420 3Dmarks to ~6600 3Dmarks.
Yeah, I was reading this: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles//overclocking/vidcard/127/4 the other day and noticed it had been updated with regards to unmoddable Connect3D GTO's.
i hadn't checked back to techpowerup; i was wondering if they had posted anything about it, actually. interesting.. but too bad
Yeah a nice 120mm fan pushing 80cfm over the card. Cools it nicely! I think I still have some headroom as well especially on the core. That and I can still push my cpu another 400 mhz. Possibly 8k is in sight although I dont' want to push it too hard.
Hmmm Just smashed through 15k on 3dmark03 as well. Not bad for a card from the x8 / 68 series generation. I can remember only just managing 13.7k on my old 6800gt a while back now. Ive just been mucking about on the COD2 demo as well and it runs as smooth as silk (1280x1024 4xAA 8xAF) Also HL2:The lost coast with HDR runs smoother than HL2 lol. Although some of the textures look as if they are stuck in low detail mode (they don't change whether I choose high or low detail) anyone else have this problem?
Do you mean for example the rocks at the start look greenish and pixelated? If so, yes, I get that on all my cards.
Yeah and some of the guns (the combine issue rifle thingy) look awful (sort of 2d). The HDR does look quite good however (much better than in screenshots anyway).
Connect3D X800GTO(16p@550/540)+Zalman VF700-Cu, I got 65xx in 2005 and 13.2xx in 2003. Maximum full load temperature was 60 celsius. If I rise de frequencies more then that I get some artifacts while the temperatures are quite low. I guess that`s the final oc potential of my board.
x800GTO2 vs others i have been watching this thread now and some others that have been throwing the idea of getting an x800gto2 and unlocking the pixel pipelines and such. the idea seems flawless if you want a single card, but has anyone attempted running the x800gto2 under a crossfire card in crossfire mode? this would be ultimate if you could get the performance of 2 x850xt pe's for a couple hundred less... I currently have an msi geforce 6600gt overclocked to 602 core and 1200 mem (from 500/1000 respectively) under a massive zalman HS/F, and have yet to see another card overclock that much with my own eyes. (amd 64 3200+, 1gb mushkin performance ram, asus a8n sli delux) This set up scored a 4000 on 3dmark05 . Now my other main concern is that because the ATI is so different from nvidia, i know a single ATI would run in my board, but with ATI's proposal of making crossfire an open platform config it makes me wonder. I had been leaning towards a 7800 gt, but with a semi limited budget and awesome price to performance ration on the x800's I cant overlook ati and help but wonder what if. so my main 3 questions if you wanna skip all that BS are this: 1) has anyone gotten the x800gto2 to run in crossfire? 2) does anyone know if crossfire is running on the sli yet in any moddable flashable form? 3) how do you run dual monitors on a crossfire set up!!?? thanks guys, pce out.
I have x800gto2 unlocked and clocked @ 530/600 and venice@2700mhz and i got like 62xx marks in 05 and 123xxmarks in 03...is this score right??!!it's kinda low isn't it? Is it maybe becouse I have some ****y kingmax ram and i run it asynchronous@384mhz 2.5 3 7 3@1T?? Also my card can't overclock higher(memory can,but core can't!) and I have zalman v700 cu....
I reflashed the bios to 12pipes again and here are the results.... 12PIPES 3dm01-26093 3dm03-12242 3dm05-5815 doom3-1280x1024 ultra high noAA-64,2fps 16PIPES 3dm01-26560 3dm03-13359 3dm05-6520 doom3-1280x1024 ultra high noAA-76,2fps I supose all is OK...
