We need some help on the 80 series video drivers. The ones of us that have the 7800/512 cards and a few other cards are getting terrible ground texture on the 80 drivers. View this thread: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=8860 When we try and go back to the 70 series drivers we have a hardware failure. Nvidia is doing the usual stuff....like nothing:mad3: . If the ones who write the great drivers could step in here and help us it sure would be nice...Mike

Flight Sim is one of thsoe games nVidia seems to want to keep broken. With 'anomalies' that bad, I really don't think there's a single thing the modders can do, as it appears to be a glitch in rendering order or Z-buffering, or something.

What I CAN offer you though, is to add 512MB 7800GTX card support to a 70 series set of your choosing so you can run those. Choose the set, and let me have your Device ID, as well as any other 7800GTX 512MB device IDs(talk to your flight simming buddies :)) and we'lls ee if we can't get you guys back in business, even if it is with an older set for now

Boy would that be great. Some say the 77 or 78 series will work. But most of us can't get them to go in. It looks like the 7800/512 big dog card including ATI can't seem to get them in. We get a message that our hardware doesn't support this driver....bummer. The card I have is the EVGA 7800GTX/GDDR3/512MB/PCI-E/ Serial no# 57545000008. If there is something else you need let me know and I will post at the other flight sites....thanks Mike

Well I fixed my problem with the big dog 7800/512 card today. I had a 6800gt over-nighted to my house and just installed it...lol. The big boy is tucked under the bed sleeping for now. It made me sick to my stomack to have to spend over a thousands on video cards. I sure hope they come out with a fix for this issue cause I really wanna see this card in actions in FS9.....still keeping my fingers crossed in hopes that someone will come up with a fix:cry:

So far we have found the 78.01 to be the best drivers for FS9 in the 70 series. The 80 series flat out won't work. We have also found that some of the 70 series drivers are 7800 compatible but they won't install on the GTX cards...Mike

Well you guys are already over my head. I know nothing about creating ID's or drivers...lol. But anything you guys can do would really help us..Mike

Can you tell me how to determine my Device ID? I have two XFX GeForce 7800GTX 512mb Extreme XXX Edition running in SLI mode.

    your device id is 90.1

nvidia actually used the 7800Ultra core as the 7800GTX 512.

    %NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0090.1% = nv4_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0090

    NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0090.1 ="NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX 512"

Thanks guys, I got the 78.01 drivers to install with my two 512Mb FX7800 GTX Extreme XXX Edition cards.

The only thing I couldn't do was to clock the cards to the XFX default of 1.73GHz for memory and 580GHz for the GPU. It would only allow 1.2GHz for memory and 275GHz for the GPU ( ie less than half the GPU speed)

Never mind, while waiting for the 81.95 drivers, FS9 now works well. In my test flight start-up screen (5000ft over Blyth) I am getting 60fps in full-screen (my monitor refresh rate) and 120fps in windowed mode. With the 81.95 drivers I could not run full-screen at all and in windowed mode I had misplaced ground textures.

    Thanks again,

    George

Hey Wolverine, could I use the .inf file from the 81.95 drivers with the 78.01 and would this allow all of the SLI rendering options?

I've just read some disturbing news in the most recent download of the Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe manual:

This wasn't in the printed manual supplied with the motherboard. Have I wasted my money buying two FX7800 GTX cards?

Read it again and take in what it says; do you 7800's have two cores each or a single core each...? Add those totals up and you should get to the magic number of 2 cores, being 1 core per 7800. This statement is referring to those 3D-1 style cards that feature two cores on each card (there is a new ASUS card with dual 7800GT cores on the single card). 2 cores per card and 2 cards obviously equates to 4 cores...

"...this motherboard does not support two dual-GPU graphics cards (total 4GPUs) running in SLI mode..."

Your 7800 SLI setup will have a total of 2 cores, or GPU's and is not effected.
