Hi Peepz, Hoping some of you could shed some light on this.My Point of view 7800GT is underperforming @ 3d05 Im running the 88.95 drivers on a a8n-sli board with 1013 bios. I have Geil UltraX 2-2-2-5 pc3200 and an AMD 64 3500+. The card seems to perform well in games like Half life 2 and CS source only ones ive tried so far. Yet when i do the 3d05 i get a crap score of 4400 while i should be pushing 7000+. I have to my knowledge set everything to low and ran 3d05. Now what could be the issue?Did clean windows Xp pro reinstall and yet the issue remains.
How much Amps does the +12V rail on the PSU supply? Also make sure you have the chipset drivers installed.
I know the problem. Vsync (turn it off in nVIDIA control panel)! Almost Guaranteed, because the same thing happened to me and I was like "WTF!" and I posted at Anandtech and figured it out.
Jerien mate, i have to my knowledge turned off the vsync. And turned all the rest of goodies to low. So i doubt thats the problem. :frown:
The only thing I Can think of that would drop your score by that much would be Vsync. I would double check you have it off and not just on App controlled. (its greyed out normally).
Sounds like a PSU issue to me. A full system with GT needs around 26amps on the 12v rail to remain stable. Also like others have said, make sure you are running the default settings on 3dmark, meaning no vsync, and arent forcing any AA/AF in the nvidia drivers. Also, use rivatuner to check your clock speeds and temps during the 3dmark run.
So if its a PSU issue shouldnt my card be unstable? I mean it runs fine on Half life2 and CS source. And like i said befoe i have to my knowledge tuned everything down to low. One thing ive noticed thought is that the riva tuner shows clock speeds of 275 when idle and 400 when gaming. Does the card underclock itself while idle?
are you using the free version of 3dmark05? the purchased version you can crank up more eye candy and resolution which would give you a lower score. Make sure its at 1024x768x32 with NO EYE CANDY that will give you a legit score.
yup i agree. thats why temps for cards drop when idling. the only reason why is the clocks are lower.
:frown: well ok so that rules that out. Im gonna try different memory timings see if that helps. If not im throwing my PC out the window!
now thats was good! :mad3: anyway, ibinco, when u say ''runs fine'' u mean like, 1280 res with ecverything maxed out, 4xaa 16 AF??? cause that would be normal...
:dave: OMG finally i changed the video card from PCI-E slot. And all of a sudden im getting 6900 on 3d05. And i was running a lot of stuff on background! Now this sounds good. Ill keep you guys posted. Thanks
