    Hi there,
Just installed the 81.95 driver and to me Battlefield 2 looks a bit crappy on Ultra settings with 4x AA. Yet with 81.85 it didn't look so bad.

Anyway I thought it might be due to my installation method.

    I use the following method:
Uninstall the drivers using Add/Remove programs - DON'T restart
Use Detanator RIP 1.5 to remove the driver
    Restart and use RIP again
    Install the new driver

Now should I use a different method to this?

Tried using Driver Cleaner but Nvidia selection seems a bit vague and was worried it would kill my Nforce drivers. What's the facts on this?

    Thanks guys

    the CORRECT process is actually:

    1. removing driver through control panel
    2. rebooting into safe mode
    3. using driver cleaner in safe mode
    4. rebooting into normal mode
    5. install drivers

Ok thanks for the advice eCs, will follow that method and see if the IQ improves with 81.95.

When reinstalling 81.85 the IQ is fine, so it may just be driver related but it's always good to know the right way to do things.

What other drivers would need a fresh install Necro?

I could be wrong but I always do a clean install of any new driver.
    1) Uninstall using Add/Remove Program
    2) Restart after process
    3) F8 into save mode
    4) Use Driver Cleaner and choose "Nvidia" filter and clean
    5) Reboot into Windows and install driver
With my old motherboard I did uninstall my nForce driver by accident the first time I used driver clean but since then I have had no problems, just use the "Nvida" filter when cleaning drivers. Good Luck

    I do it as follows:

    Remove display driver
Run Driver Cleaner3 for display only (nvidia is the option to choose)
Delete Nvidia folder from Hard drive (display folder only)
    Run Disk Clean up
    Reboot
    Install new drivers
    Defrag

Never used safemode. Never had any problems doing it this way.

    Regards.

Thats what I do but remember that Windows has to install its own drivers then resart after that... So basically I do another restart after the uninstall and clean... or am I just jibber-jabbin??? :p

  8. it may sound a bit strange but.......if a driver has poor quality IQ you cant fix it,
unless you get a modified version that was tweaked.

imho, the 81.84/81.85 IQ are among the best i've ever seen, however 81.95 the only poor IQ is on my desktop in WinXP, i don't know why in 2005 such thing happend but....it's not as crisp as earlier drivers, kinda blurred (a tiny bit).

anyhow, i like the 81.95 and keep em because of the bugfixes, performance wise they are about the same as earlier ones. ;)

Well upon installing the way you guys tell me I see that the IQ between 85 and 95 is exactly the same in BF2. Must have just been my imagination.

Thanks everyone for your help on this, now I can make sure I install drivers correctly.

People will hate me for doing this but I've been installing old drivers over new drivers and new drivers over old drivers (all official forceware versions) with no issues. :p With ATI though I always uninstalled drivers, booted into safe mode, ran driver cleaner, rebooted into normal mode, installed ati drivers.. rebooted. I guess it's the same for nvidia.

You guys are missing a couple steps.

    nVidia:
    1. Unplug nic card or modem from net or disconnect
    2. Remove nvidia from add/remove programs
    3. Reboot into safe mode (F8 during boot up)
    4. On reboot into safe mode WinXP SP1/SP2 will auto detect and install drivers. Just let it do its thing. If you can cancel out of the auto install hardware wizard then skip the rest and run Driver Cleaner! If you can NOT cancel out of auto detect wizard then...
    5. Navigate to device manager->display adapters->highlight nVidia and click uninstall or remove but don't reboot
    6. Disable any AntiVirus Software (If you don't disable is than it could give trouble)
    7. Run Cab Cleaner (not needed, but recommended)
    8. Run Driver Cleaner
    9. Empty recycle bin and reboot
    10. Install the new drivers

    ;)

a bit excessive...i doubt it makes any difference. Maybe you'll be able to clear that one last .txt file, but was it worth the pain?

Hmm... i never had a problem with forceware doing it like this..

    Reboot
    Normal Uninstall
    Reboot
    Normal Install

First reboot is to be sure that dll files arent locked for some odd reason..

I dont mean to be a stupid douche but I have since forgotten the meaning of IQ and what it does. Is there a way to measure it and how can it be enabled?

IQ is Image Quality. You are best off going into the NV control panel and set it to high quality. This way you dissable Tril and AF optimizations, which in turn improves IQ.

Not even ONE word of this is necessary, Where on earth did you get all of that bull molarky ?

EcS is the only one that posted here with the right way or the only way to uninstall and reinstall forceware drivers.
quote~~~ the CORRECT process is actually:

    1. removing driver through control panel
    2. rebooting into safe mode
    3. using driver cleaner in safe mode
    4. rebooting into normal mode
    5. install drivers

That IS the way to do it.

The End...... and good luck ;)

    Stupid Question

Perhaps due to ignorance more than anything, I have always simply installed new drivers over old ones without cleaning. Many of the above posts recommend using a cleaner after uninstalling a driver. Where would I find one for Nvidia drivers? What is best to use? Thanks,

Always installing new over the old - no uninstall, no reboots. Works flawlessly for years.
But, of course, you can follow the recommended installation procedure, I'm not saying you shouldn't.

I do this almost exactly as stated except for step 4. I stay in safemode, install the drivers and reboot. That way, you can be sure windows isn't replacing any files before you install the new drivers.
