How good a card is the Gainward Powerpack 2400 ultra (non golden sample)? I've been offered one for $171 shipped. thanks. Also anyone know what sort of performance increase over a Leadtek 6600GT would be?

I dont know what a gainward powerpack 2400 ultra is, but a 6600GT is a great midrange card, but i'd rather have the X800GT or the new 6800GS, well you have a 6800GT anyways, is it for your friend?

A 6800 beats a 6600 but not by a whole lot, its probably best to save you money and invest in the 7' series where you will notice a big upgrade.

7800GS to be released soon should be a really good investment for a cheap 7800 card.

If you need AGP because you dont have PCI-E just know that you can get a good PCI-E board for pretty cheap so dont be afraid to swich over if your AGP card is not good enough for you, if it is... then just keep saving. So instead of hoping on the bandwagon with all us 7800 owners socket 939, you can get a mobo with the new socket type and the new video card and have a better system than us.

somtimes its best to "sit out" an upgrade phase because it will just phase out soon enough anyway and you find yourself in the middle of settling for what you have or upgrading again.

In the case of how things are now, if your on a low budget with all this new stuff just around the corner Id save you money and see what comes next, or atleast pick up stuff we have now for a much cheaper price because it takes the backseat to the new stuff.

from the link posted by bigpipe this seems to be just a regular 6800gt.
$171 shipped is a decent price but you seem to already have a 6800gt so you should know what performance you can get from it.
At stock speeds i'd say it's about 70% faster then the 6600GT. Overclocked you should be able to get it to twice the performance of the 6600GT.
