i can get a 6800 ultra for 260 USD i can also get a 7800 GT (not the GTX) for 325 USD. which one do you guys think i should get??? Both are very tempting. What do you think is better bang for buck? the 7800GT is 65 more than the 6800 ultra. debating on which one to get. and i'm looking for BANG FOR BUCK here. NOt what is best for future proofing.
The 7800GT is sufficiently faster than a 6800U to more than justify the extra price if you need the increased performance. Also a 7800GT runs a lot cooler than a 6800U so your whole system will be cooler with it.
I noticed you have an MSI K8N Neo 2, and AGP motherboard. The 7800 GT is PCI-Express. You'll have to change your motherboard in order to go for the 7800 GT. If you don't want to stick with the 6800 Ultra.
If it's PCI-e then the price is almost too good. Usually the PCI-e 6800 Ultras are a lot more expensive. I'd probably go with the 7800 GT since it consumes less power.
Go for the 7800GT if you're planning to upgrade system, @ 325.00USD thats only 65 bucks more than the 6800U, and the performance overral you get over the 6800U makes it worth an extra 65 dollars. That is a great steal and your best bang for buck.
Remember its the GT not the GTX. and all the reviews i seen comparing the two cards, the 7800 GT averages around 15-20 fps more. you think that 15-20 fps is worth 65?
If you are seriously considering getting a second 7800GT a few months after your first, you'd be better off getting a 7800GTX from the outset. SLI has overheads and some games don't work with it, but the 7800GTX gives a sufficient performance boost over a 7800GT to justify its increased cost. And you could always add a second 7800GTX later if you need serious graphics power
sli performence sometime dont work on OLD games, that doesnt not mean it won't work on gears of war, fear, and all the new upcomming games. I, myself will buy a second 7800 GT when the price lowers, then buy another gig of ram so i can play games on maxed out settings.
I went straight for SLI GTs, just because in SLi the GTXs arent worth the extra money, in single then maybe, but not SLi. By the time my Gts are even being hard pushed, Ill have already upgraded to next gen - so no need to get a GTX Sli system
Thats not true at all the performance isnt that huge... I score 7761 with my 7800GT is 3dm05 and the GTX is at a little over 7800 and the FPS is usually in single digits
are you kidding?? that price is AWESOME man; think not! just go get it! i'd get two if i found a 7800GTX for that price; the best price i've found for it in the marketplace around my country is 750$.
Most reviews with real games show the 7800GTX to be about 25% faster than a 7800GT, provided you are running at very high resolutions with anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering turned well up. Obviously you won't see much difference at lower resolutions where you are CPU bound. If I had the money to either buy two 7800GTs or a single 7800GTX, and even if the GTX was 30-40% more expensive than a single GT, I'd still go for the GTX rather than two GTs. SLI carries significant overheads and two 7800GTs != double the performance of a single 7800GT, even in games that work well with SLI. Yes, two 7800GTs are faster than a single 7800GTX in most cases, but the additional cost of a pair of GTs over a single GTX is just as difficult to justify for the average performance gain, as the added cost of a single 7800GTX over a single 7800GT. However going with the GTX means you can be sure every game works well and fully utilises the card, whereas a pair of GTs will give a varying performance boost with different games. And like I said, once you've got one 7800GTX, you can always add a second later and get higher performance than anything possible with 7800GTs. Of course I'm assuming that anyone considering a pair of 7800GTs (or a 7800GTX) has a monitor capable of displaying at least 1600x1200, if you don't then you're wasting your money and should spend it instead on a better monitor.
