As many of you know, the Zalman VF700 cooler has a hard time fitting the ramsinks for the memory on 6600GT's.
I basically had to take each ramsinks and chop off about 75% of each one.
My question is, would the cooling be better with no ramsinks, just the fan blowing over them, or with the current ramsinks that are shaved pretty much down ?

Oh thanks very much for telling me abut this, i was going to buy this, and no i dont think tahts a very good idea, look for heatsinks for it, otherwise it will overheat, you should be fine for now tho.

I am pretty sure they wont over heat if they are bare.. because the fan will be blowing on them.
With the stock cooler, there was nothing making contact with the ramsinks, and there was no fan blowing on them..that's as hot as it can get.

I dunno i never messed with my card, but why take them off if they are already on?

well, i already bought mine, and my question was if its better to use shaved ramsinks or just bare.

My first comment was for Nickf, sorry. About your question, leave the shaved ramsinks on it. Alot of other people have done the same thing and it will keep your ram cooler.

i went and installed the fan with the ramsinks bare. An idea came to mind, what about covering the tops of the ram with a layer of AS5. I bet that would cool them better than just being bare.

I have no heatsinks on it... just only the vf700-cu cooler on the gpu :)
