ive just put my friends 6600gt in my computer after it wasn't working well in his comp. ive installed offical 77.72 drivers and everything, and it wont run 3D apps. Even using direct3D test in dxdiag, it lags, and keeps stopping.

anyone figure out what this is?

Did you uninstall the 9800 xt drivers and then run driver cleaner pro?

Make sure you did a clean driver uninstall before installing the card, actually if the bios wasnt modden you really cant check the temps on that, make sure heatsink is sitting right/flushed on the gpu. Couple of things you can do.

cleaned drivers out, reinstalled, temps are at 45C.

but it still stutters, i cant figure out what it is, its like it cant handle it.

okay it seems, when i go into a 3d game, opengl or directx, it stutters, then it went okay, then it went stuttery, it seems to be making the cpu go 100%.

this is exactly what was happening on my friends computer. anyone got any clue what this?

Well, have you connected the molex power supply to the card? Running 2D and not running 3D is a classic case of power supply not being connected.

I think the nVidia driver will warn you if it detects that the power is not connected to the card, but I am not sure about this.

You might want to try setting the 2d core clock to the same as the 3d core clock speeds. There were some problems awhile back that doing that fixed the transition between the two.

its pretty hard to troubleshoot a videocard if its not installed in a working system or test bed. having said that if it wont run dxdiag then there is a hardware issue, also if the card is having the same problem in two different systems, it indicates something wrong with the card, try and RMA it.
BTW, did your friend ever o/c the video card?

Yes it did "Fix" the issue. It was a know problem with certain video cards when going from 2d mode into NWN. I heard it fixed the same issue in other games also.

Looking back now it could mean something else was wrong with the card and you might want to consider RMAing the card. If you have a lifetime warrenty on it that is not a bad thing.
