I just priced out and fx 57 cpu with an asus n-force 4 sli deluxe mobo and 2 gb of corsair pro ram... its about $1600.00. i already have a case waiting. I need a psu and a sata drive or 2..lo. I need a sound card, also 2 7800 gtx cards....I've selected a pc power and cooling 510 sli model costs about $200 bucks but its the best psu money can buy. I will not compromise there, power is crucial in this type of system. I can get the 2 7800 gtx's for about $1150.00 and the sound card for about $80 and the wd raptors for $166.00 each. I have everything else. Should i jump now?

    $1600
    $1150
    $200
    $166
    $166
    total is $3282.00

Absoutely ! Why not ? SLI config with 2 x 7800 and an FX57 will be a great setup, and you'll have a great PC !

I SAY GO FOR IT MATE !!! :D

the crossfire x800xt pe's on a crossfire setup already beat the world record for highest 3dmark05 (set by nvidia with dual 7800gtx's SLI), wait untill the x900's (or whatever) come out and get 2 of them on a crossfire setup. Pwnage.

Oh why not make a GAINT LEAP? Go to the 4X SLI board from GIGABYTE with All 7800U.........That would be kick a$$.

    or..... don't?

seriously, for right now, maybe buy the board and stuff, but not the 7800's. I have a feeling it's just not worth it. Unless of course you have the money to get the newer cards to rival next gen consoles when they come out. It's all a matter of moulah in the end.

I would say no the 7800 sli the numbers are not that impressive atm over single 7800 in games, apart from the wank value and 3d mark what would you gain wait is the current game to play that’s what I am doing I think ati maybe the way to go very soon and if its not things will be cheaper then, fx-57 current price is a rip off atm

Again, agree with Phrozin. Just not convinced by the GTX... even in SLI. Just seems to be something missing there.
As for the FX-57, forget it for the min. Totally overpriced. Much better to get an FX-55 sandy if you want a high end chip now. Much cheaper, and most overclock pretty well.

reflex - actually, that was against 6800U SLI, the 7800GTX SLI has just brocken the ATI record, im sure of it. It was in the Guru news section the other day.

Oh, If going for the fx-55, go for the san diego core. It's newer and is supposed to run cooler (or so I hear).

Yes it does, alot cooler... trust me Ive had both clawhammer and Sandy core FX-55's. Oh, and the Sandy's overclock far better than the clawhammers too for the most part (although there are no guarantees of course ;))

If you gonna spend so much money, why not go for the AMD 64 4800+ The dual chips will benefit you in a year or two.

Usually, I'd say "hell yeah!", but I seriously doubt that any performance gains can be experienced. Of course, if you are looking for the fastest rig in the world and are willing and able (!) to spend that kinda cash, there really is no reason to stop you. At all! But if you want to see gains in apps or games, it really ain't worth it. I agree with Creeper, go for the top X2 processor and see your games fly while decoding a movie at the same time (yeah!!)

Dude,..seriously this is what you should do,..just get the asus sli board and a single 7800gtx,....instal on current parts see where performance boost is at,if its above yoru expectations,...then good deal, your cpu still dominates games,..and if your happy with th egraphics oomph get another 7800gtx,.....then on th emoney you save from not getting the fx-57,go get yerself 2x1gb sticks, and a monitor that displays 1600x1200 as native res

if you got enough left over pick up a raptor
