Ive not had many issues when running the demo with 5.4's so it might be worth a try.

The only real big issue ive had is shader problems on the sea if u dont set AF to 8x or 16 making sure that Quality with full trilinear is turned off if u have a 3rd party app.

I can play on a 64man server (full) and have excellent performance.

Its all a matter of tweaking ur system up to get it to run properly.

-Clear any junk files u no longer use or don't plan to use
-Turn off processes u are most likely not to use.
-Tone down ur BF2 settings slightly, i noticed a decline in performance if i set lighting, audio quality, dynamic lighting above medium.
-Turn off any apps like MSN or anything similar running in the background.
-Tune your graphics settings in 3rd party apps/ATI control panel for an increase in performance.
-Set page file on whatever drive your pagefile is to atleast 600.

I've done these things, and nearly have full settings and can play the game flawlessly. These things may not work for u, but you can always give it a try.

Either my card is f*cked or these CAT drivers are sh*t!!

Tried 5.5 AND 5.6 and get this:

Corruption of wall textures, sleeve and glove and I also get corrupt text for respawning and on menus?

FarCry does the same too, checkeboard type corruption and garbled text on menus but that's after playing the game for a while, BF2 Demo does it straight away?

Going to try CAT 5.4 then 5.1 and see what happens!

    *EDIT*

I think I found the cure in this thread:

    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=141142

Underclocking RAM by 10Mhz has stopped all checkerboard corruption on textures appearing in the game now?

LOL! Sniper to Control Point 1, Headshot :)

Seeing as it did it with 3 consecutive driver sets it's either a quirk of my system, like running at 4x AGP, or a 'rare' :) driver error!

Either way it's not impacted performance, so I should be thankful a solution, however bizzare, was found!

Glad u got it sorted in either case.

Medic to headshot bloke, Hold on m8, i'm recharging.:)

A couple of things i've noticed.

If you set geometry to high, i don't find the need for aa, maybe its just me, but it smooths out jaggies for me,lol. I know that high geom would be smoother, but it looks so much better then medium. Where as textures look same'ish high or med.

Got to ask this, but has anyone tried the timedemo from guru3d for this demo. says unpack files in ur ea gamedir. But if i did that, the mods folder would overwrite the original folder, with all the data in it. wtf.

Anywayz i cant get it to run.

What am i doing wrong, jeez i'm normally fine with this stuff.!!!

What are you guys using in the full version aa ingame settings or in the control panel what gives better performance?
And is it better to set sound on hardware or software for a onboard sound card?

For all the people having desktop crashes and problems with BF2 I would like to inform you that it might be because of a refresh rate forcing program you might be using (If you use one)

I myself had many problems untill I read that you need to disable it before launching the game so it can start at 800x600@60hz. I was going blue in the face untill I disabled my ReForce and now it runs 100% perfect on any new driver.

AA from driver set to app controlled, AA from ingame options set to 2x.

for the sound thing, try it out. id say set it to hardware but in both cases most calculations are moved for the CPU and thats why you should invest on a decent soundcard that makes all the sound processing.

running retail here at a 1024 x 768 resolution. all settings at high except dynamic lights and dynamic shadows set to medium and the game seems to run fine now with very little choppiness.

i think the occasional choppiness of the game depends a bit on the server. yesterday i was playing on an EA europe ranked server and my game was stuttering quite a bit, at one point my game freezed for like 1-2 secs and that was enough time to crash my chopper

later on in the evening i played on a full 40 man unranked server and there wasnt any choppiness for me, all worked nice and smooth even in bigger fire fights.
