    So...

I'm about to upgrade my PC, but I'd want to ask you guys....
    who is better?????????

    ATI or NVIDIA?????????????????????

    My 2 options are...

    Radeon X800 PRO VIVO (PCI-E) or NVIDIA 6800GT (PIC-E)

I've been reading that with a RX800PRO I can make a softmod to a X800XT and then it would have more perfomace than a 6800GT.....is this right??????

    please help me

Yes, the VIVO X800Pro variants can be modded to X800XT but if you don't want to risk any modding, get the X800XL - it's cheaper than the 6800GT and faster in most of the benchmarks.

x800xL is a very good choice.. 16 pipelines stock so no unlocking like a x800pro to x800xt would havae to

and of course a 6800gt is a nice card too

i said that cuz some people say: 6800GT is a good card, but lose perfomace when the filters are turned on, while the X800 PRO don't....is that true?????????????

To a degree. ATi cards process AA/AF more efficiently than Nvidia cards, but they still lose some performance when you start bringing up the eye candy, just like all other video cards.

By the same token, Nvidia has better driver support for OpenGL, making games like Doom 3 play a fair bit better on their hardware.

In the end though, I'd say go ATi, but go for an X800 XL. They've got 16 pipelines stock (i.e. no modding required) and run cooler than the X800 Pro due to a smaller manufacturing process. Great buy for the money...

I still reccommend Nvidia... the 6800GT is a GREAT card.

The 6800 GT would be faster most of the time unless that X800 Pro VIVO was modded to the XT, then the roles are reversed. Modding is not always succesfull as has already been stated.

Also, looking at the Futuremark ORB, 6800 GTs are overclocking better than X800 XLs are despite the smaller process. A single GT can get over 6000 with not too much difficulty, but with a XL it is much tougher. Just 9 people have achieved 6000 3DMarks with a XL (all drivers), and of those 5 are below 6090. Then again, I believe the XL is cheaper than a GT, so has good price/performance ratio.

The 6800 GT has SM3.0, SLi which is not available with ATi cards at present as well as stronger OpenGL performance and better Linux drivers. All factors to take into account when you buy.

So if I get a 6800GT... it will have more live-time than a ATI card....right?????

If yes I'll take the 6800GT.

According to your pc's information you already have a 6800.... Why would you buy a 6800 GT? Wouldn't you wait for just a little bit longer to buy a new generation of cards?

Definately the 6800GT mate. Ive used both cards and my favourite is the GT by a long shot. Plus theres always he SLI aspect. The GT is more future proof that the 800XT as Clements has stated. Bang for buck, you cant beat a GT.

If a 6800GT costs U$ 350,00 in USA, here in brasil I cant take one for less than U$ 450,00:mad:   its makes me mad:mad:

    I don't think it's really worth taking the jump to PCI-E if you've already got a 6800.
