my laptop came stock with 2x256 PC 2700 DDR-SD RAM. i replaced one of the 256 modules with a corsair 1GB PC3200 (bringing it to 1.25GB total). i read somewhere that the 2700 module will force both to run at 2700. should i just take out the other 256 and have an empty slot? or would it be better with just 1GB running at the higher speed? thanks!
Get rid of the 256MB stick, even if it were running at the same speed it wouldn't make any difference anyway
well i think the 3.06 GHz p4 runs a 533 mhz FSB, so i doubt the ram runs at 200, especially considering laptops dont have a lot of bios options, and why would any brand make laptops like that with the ram running under the normal spec for that cpu? so i dont think getting the 2700 stick out of there would make the ram go faster, you could test this with a util like sisoft however but as was said, you wont notice any difference between 1280 and 1024 megs of ram, so you might as well take it out an ebay the stuff

hmmm, most remarkable, your fsb and memory run out of sync, then again the memory on my laptop runs 133, and the fsb is set at 100 in order to test if the memory controller will go to 200, just take out the 2700 stick, and run this test again, if it works the bottom line should read: Memory Bus Speed : 2x 200MHz (400MHz data rate) and as i said, even if it doesnt then dont worry, the extra 256 meg doesnt do anything for performance edit: got my html tags wrong again, it seems like there is no consistency between < tags and [ tags, html files mostly use <, but this forum uses [
