some 6600 gt burn in months due to excessive temp, a guy of a shop told me so. Mine is quite cold, 68ºc at max, i would worry if it rises 80ºc

Got my MSI 6600GT down to 75C @ 570/1.14 Idle at 48C with a case fan.

Just can't get past the 4000 mark on 3dmark2005. The highest I got without artifacts are 3986. Not that it really matters. It is all about games.

Go get yourself a zalman. They work.
Stock cooler is better if you scrape off the thermal pad. Repolish (Brasso!) & refit with some silver paste.
    My temps 42 idle & 60 Max

My eVGA 6600GT goes up to 100C. I put some AC3 on it, the heatsink does get burning hot, so I assume it is getting proper heat transfer. I wish aftermarket coolers weren't so expensive :(

EDIT: Well I just found if i manually set the fan to 100%, it stays around 90 load.

Here is a link for people who dont have temp sensors. Enable Temp monitoring

A cheaper alternative to a Zalman is an old socket A heat sink & fan. You clean & polish, Apply thermal paste & secure with cable ties. Through the original heatsink holes. You have to do a good job with the ties or your GPU will be toast. You need a spare connector on the MoBo for the fan too.
Zalmans are cheap. Depends how much you paid for your card. Mine was £103 from Dabs. (Inno) So even with the Cooler its cheap.
60C is the hottest I've recorded with the Zalman & I've reduced the O/Clock now.

I just changed drivers from 71.84 to 76.71, and my idle temps went from 54C to 38C !! I don't know why, or whether the new driver is reading the temps correctly. Can anyone else try this and see if you notice a huge drop in temps like I did?

    I'm also running XP64bit.
