I have a PNY 6800 GT, about 60 idle 70 load. I don't do any overclocking and it has been running well for about 4 months. My ? is what are the pros and cons of having a cooler. Necessary for longer life, or should I just keep the stock fan? Any advice? I ask about the NV5 because I got one but haven't opened the package.
You would be crazy not to use it my friend. As soon as i got my GT i imediately changed the stock hsf to the nv5 cooler. temps are 50idle and around 70load with 425/1.15 clocks. I believe it is much quieter also. It also blows the hot air out of your case to minimise ambient heat. The only bad thing is it voids your warrenty, but in most cases if their is a problem just install the stock hsf back on. I highly doubt you will have any problems.
unless you are oc'ing stock is fine. and depending on what brand you bought you may already have a very good hs/f. like the massive hs/f on leadtek vid card.
PNY Yeah I heard about the leadtek, but I have PNY Verto. Was a gift so I'm not complaining But it seems to have a regular HS with a fan.
Is like asking what would be better? Have 200 dollar or 250 dollars? Im not flaming you, just saying that if you want your card to be coller and for that reason to live longer you should use it, also its quiet. If youre not overclocking and you have no problems then let its stock fan. Good Luck.
One question. Why do you buy the NV Silencer if you are not going to use it? Are you worried about warranty issues? If you are, you are better off on stock, do not overclock and sell that NV 5. Most of us who visit this forum are already "infected" with the overclocking virus. It is very addictive. As I am typing this msg I am thinking how to push my vid card and cpu further......
I'm very happy with my NV5 because of its quietness! I also don't care about the loss of warranty, if something goes wrong I will buy a new one!
