Universal has released some more info and photos from the Doom movie. The story in the movie will take place in 2145, the same as in the Doom 3 game. The game will take place on a (unspecified) planet to secure a science lab under attack from creatures of unknown origin. The Rock plays Sarge and Karl Urban plays John "Reaper" Grimm, the formerly nameless space marine who acts as the film's central character. The film also stars Rosamund Pike as Dr. Samantha Grimm, as well as DeObia Oparei, Ben Daniels, Raz Adoti, Richard Brake, Al Weaver, Yao Chin and Dexter Fletcher. Sarge (The Rock) and Destroyer (DeObia Oparei) enter a corridor with ventillation ducts overhead. Suddenly Destroyer is spooked by something in the duct and falls to the ground firing into the duct-work as he falls. The Kid (Al Weaver) emerges from the Ark into the Wormhole Chamber of Olduvai and promptly pukes in front of the rest of the squad. The Kid (Al Weaver), Sarge (The Rock) and Destroyer (DeObia Oparei) in the corridor from Airlock to Carmack's lab. Sarge tells Destroyer to shoot Portman in the knee if he gives him trouble. Although the movie has traded the Martian setting of the game for an unspecified planet, the photos show a setting not far off from the dark futuristic settings of Doom 3. One of the scientists has been named after John Carmack. The movie is directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds). The technical crew is the same that worked on The Nutty Professor and The Mask. The creature FX supervisor worked on Terminator 3 and Jurassic Park The Lost World before. First this was supposed to be a low budget movie, but because Universal noticed all the hype around this movie, they made sure the movie makers had enough money to make a decent movie. The film began shooting in Prague in October 2004, and is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 21, 2005.
Yes! I just hope thet don't screw it up. I'm a major Doom fan (been playing it since I was 5 years old)
Well it may not be really the Doom movie fans wanted. But it could still be a good action horror that feels like Doom. I'll go see it.
Rock is actually a very good actor for action films.Sure his acting isn't the best, but it is more than enough for action movies.Besides his acting is getting better and better from movie to movie.
I still think this movie is going to suck a lot. give me demons, a hellish setting like d3, and a LOT of blood & guts & ill be a happy movie watcher.
I know... if they do put demons and scary stuff... along with shooting and gory stuff, as well as suspense... its gonna be great.
