hi, i have an FSP 300WATT single 80mm fan PSU. that has 33A on the 5+ line and 28A on the 3,3 line and 18A (or more) on the 12+ line. now there is connected ----------------> see specs. i whant to replace that 5900XT with an Asus v9999 GT/TD (6800GT) will my pc get enough power? my processor uses 86 watt overclocked (by sisoft sandra) thx in advance (no money for new PSU)
hmm i would get something more than a 300 watt with all that stuff with a 6800gt thrown in-- also 18amps isnt enough. invest in a ocz or thermaltake and not have to worry
Hi, this is my first post... I thought that instead of making the exact same thread, I would post in this very similar thread instead of cluttering up page 1. I plan on upgrading my PC to have : A Sapphire Radeon X800(no XT or XL just plain X800) 256 mb GDDR3 PCI-E, a Foxconn NF4K8AB-RS nForce 4 Socket 754 w/ 16x PCI-E slot, Corsair 1024 mb DDR Dual-Channel RAM, AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 512 KB Cache 1600 mhz FSB Socket 754 processor, a Masscool socket 754/940 AMD Athlon 64 FX Ball Bearing Cooling Fan. I am also planning to add in my network adapter so it takes up 1 PCI slot, and a 80(I think) GB hard drive. The one thing I need to know is, how much power(in watts) would I need?
antec TP 430w+ - I would say a 550w just to be safe. I have one and its awesome. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BY A CHEAP POWER SUPPLY. Zubaz - BAD UPGRADE.... socket 754 is dead. AMD just realeased some new Athlon 64's for the 939 socket. Much better investment. Also, ATI are bad - a 6800GT or 6800 Non Ultra is a much better investment.
ATI are bad how? ATI Are not bad, they are a perfectly good investment. If you're going to call ATI bad at least list some reasons as to why. I would personally say ATI has the best price/performance ratio right now with some of their cards. As for Zubaz, your combo seems a little strange. As far as I know socket 754 does not support dual channel memory. And as was said above socket 754 isn't such a good investment right now. You would be better off going for a 939 solution as it will leave further pathways open to future upgrades. I would recommend at the least a nice 400 + watt branded PSU. Stay away from Thermaltake though, they're weak on the 12v rails. A nice Antec or OCZ PSU would be good.
it is generally accepted that while ATI cards are not bad, the geforce 6 series is better. Just like it is generally accepted that the 9xxx series is better then the FX series. It was a poorly worded statement tho. socket 754 does support dual channel. Even some socket A mobos supported dual channel. Still, not worth spending money on. Socket 939 all the way.
Ah, thanks, I'm no PC wizard :O I decided to go with ATI mainly because this computer is mainly going to be for playing HL2. Alright, how about this setup instead? AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 512kb Cache 2000 mhz FSB Socket 939 Processor, Corsair Value Select Daul Channel 1024MB PC 3200 DDR 400 Mhz (2 x 512mb), Sapphire Radeon X800 PCI-E, ECS nForce4-A939 Socket 939 ATX Motherboard w/ 16x PCI-E, Masscool Socket 754/939/940 AMD Athlon 64 Ball Bearing Cooling Fan.
Yes, the nforce2 400 Ultra and VIA KT880 chipsets supported DC on Socket A. Socket 754 CPUs have a single channel memory controller. Thus, they do not support dual channel. Socket 939 CPUs have a dual channel memory controller, but I hope you're saying that 754 is not worth spending money on because it is now a budget platform, rather than indirectly saying that 754 CPUs are slow because they do not have dual channel. Dual channel really is nothing to wet your pants over.
Go with the Enermax EG701AX 600W PSU SLI ready... http://www.coolergiant.co.uk/product/pow_supp/spec/noisetaker2_ax_series/index.htm#spec
Ok, I want to try and ground everyone a bit. Well, not everyone, but some of you. Getting a big fancy and expensive PSU isn't for everyone. They may not have the money, or may not want to spend money on such a unit. If you are a bit tight on money, then getting a nice 400W Antec or Enermax, or yadda yadda would be pretty good. Thermaltake is OK if you are on a budget, but if you have more money, I would stay away from them. If you have money to spend and want something good, get a 500+ watt from OCZ, Enermax, Antec, or other good brands. Personally, I have an OCZ 520W Powerstream. Upgraded from a 480W thermaltake PSU and there is a WHOLE WORLD of difference.
I have heard that u should stay away from em. Dude - the general advice on this forum is go for Antec, TT or enermax. Antec are probably the best tho. The main point we try to get across here - is that if its cheap, its rubbish.
fortons are good PSUs so ive heard. i would recomend Antec, TT, Enermax, Sparkle (if they are still alive), Forton... I have a 350w Antec TrueBlue and it works good for me. belive WildStyle has one also.
a friend of mine has the same PSu as me but then 350 watts FSP Psu. he runs a prescott 3.4ghz and a 6610XL and some ram drive and 160 gig HD damn... and its fully stable! so are u guys sure i can't run my system without a 300 watt FSP Psu? (replace the 5900XT by an 6800GT)
I would err on the side of caution. It might run or it won't. If you go out and buy the card only to find out that it doesn't work with your PS. you'll be buying a new PS anyway. It's up to you, roll the bones.
