monitor driver or vid-card driver...what first.

    Hey

    I have a Samsung SyncMaster 172x, I was wondering what driver to install first during a reformat and fresh os install? The monitor or video card driver, i have geforce 6800gt?

    dont think you can install the monitor before the vid card.. i cant at least.. i got a samtron and that the same shait

    generally i install the monitor 1st but i dont think it makes a dif either way.

    I usually install my vid card drivers first, mainly because I have to install the nforce motherboard drivers, which come with nvidia display drivers :b

    but like maxfly says it doesnt make a difference.

    i've never installed a monitor driver for about 5 years now, must monitors will P&P under XP,

    yes if its an older moniter its fine to use PnP, but with newer moniters you should get drivers so windows knows which resolutions and refresh rates the moniter can handle.

    new monitors should tell windows their timings via DDC anyway (unless you are using a KVM)

    This is very true. (Edit: Most) Monitor 'drivers' are not drivers, technically speaking. Nothing more than color profiles.
